history

2013: Foundation, federal and state elections 2013

The Hessian state association of the AfD was founded on May 5, 2013 in Frankfurt am Main . At the founding party convention, the former CDU city treasurer Albrecht Glaser , banker Eberhard Freiherr von dem Bussche and management consultant Walter Schäfer were elected by around 450 members present as spokesman for the state executive. Furthermore, it was decided to run the state elections in Hesse in 2013 . Walter Schäfer resigned on June 14, 2013 due to disputes between the members of the state executive committee. Investment advisor and economist Simon Roger rose to be the third speaker in accordance with the Articles of Association. On June 8, 2013, the state party became the then co-federal spokesman Konrad Adam as the Hessian top candidate for the 2013 federal election . On June 15, 2013, the list for the 2013 state election was drawn up at a state party conference in Giessen . The dentist Christiane Gleissner was chosen as the top candidate ahead of Simon Roger and the retired media scientist Wolfgang Schöhl. In addition, the election program was adopted as a draft. With 4.1 percent of the vote, the Hessian AfD failed to make it into the state parliament.

2013 - 2015: Internal party conflicts and directional decisions

After internal disputes, the entire state executive resigned at a party conference on November 24, 2013 in Giessen. The new elections could not be held due to the lack of a quorum at the party congress, as members left the hall after the candidates had been presented, so that an emergency committee had to be set up. At another party conference on December 14th and 15th in Friedberg , an eleven-member state executive with the speakers Volker Bartz, Gunther Nickel and Simon Roger was elected. Even before the first meeting of the board, the treasurer was removed from office by the federal board with immediate effect due to right-wing extremist statements. Due to "serious party damage", the federal executive also decided to immediately remove from office and initiate party expulsion proceedings against the spokesman Volker Bartz, who admitted the improper use of academic titles. At the subsequent state party conference, the biochemist Claudia Koch-Brandt and the political advisor Joana Cotar took over as speakers. Cotar resigned at the end of July 2014, Koch-Brandt at the beginning of August after disputes in the state executive. Eibe Hinrichs and Thomas Orth followed according to the statutes. On November 15, the by-elections were to take place at a party conference in Stadtallendorf . At this party congress, the then state chairman Gunther Nickel resigned from his position after a majority of the members voted for his removal. In a battle vote, the then federal spokesman Konrad Adam prevailed against Albrecht Glaser as the first chairman of the board; The lawyer and former Republican Peter Münch and Susanne Gruber were elected as additional speakers . Just two weeks later, the board of directors filed an application with the regional arbitration court for Münch to be removed from office, accused of false statements about membership of the Republicans. In mid-March 2015, the arbitral tribunal granted the request, Hadi Riedel moved up as spokesman. The entire state executive was again voted out at a party conference on April 18 in a vote of 158 to 144. New elections were not held due to a lack of a three-quarters majority, so an emergency board was convened. On May 30, 2015, a new, three-member state executive chaired by Albrecht Glaser, Peter Münch and Rolf Kahnt was elected at another party conference in Hofheim am Taunus . In a close vote of 170: 169, representatives of the economically liberal wing were defeated on the question of the number of equal speakers, so that some left the party congress. After the state party congress and as part of a power struggle within the party as a whole, there was also an increase in party resignations in the AfD Hessen, including numerous municipal elected officials and functionaries at the district and state level.

2016 - 2018: Successful elections and entry into the state parliament

In the local elections in Hesse in 2016 , the AfD was elected third-strongest with 11.9 percent and moved in with 183 members in 20 of 21 district assemblies. The regional association had not started in the Werra-Meißner district . In addition, the party provided a total of 40 seats in the newly elected city councils of the five independent cities.

At the state party congress on November 11 and 12, 2017, a new state board was to be elected in addition to the delegates to the federal party congress. Due to delays due to technical problems with the voting machines, the board elections were postponed to another state party conference. On December 3, 2017, the co-spokesman Peter Münch resigned due to dissatisfaction with the course of the state and federal party and because of disputes in the state board after he had filed a complaint against the co-spokesman Albrecht Glaser on suspicion of embezzlement of public funds thereupon a request for voting out of delegates was put on the agenda of the state party conference on December 16 in Giessen. At this state party congress, the then parliamentary managing director of the Wiesbaden AfD town hall faction, Robert Lambrou, and the then chairman of the Wetterau district association, Klaus Herrmann, were elected as spokespersons for the new state board.

At a state party conference on April 7, 2018 in Neu-Isenburg , Rainer Rahn was chosen as the top candidate for the 2018 state election. So far he heads the AfD parliamentary group in the Frankfurt Römer . In the state election in 2018 , the state party entered the state parliament for the first time with 13.1 percent of the vote and 19 members.

Since 2019: Politics in the state parliament

In the constituent meeting of the parliamentary group on January 18, 2019, the parliamentary group chairman was elected by Robert Lambrou . Among the deputies were Klaus Herrmann and Volker judges elected to the parliamentary CEO Frank Grobe . At the meeting, Alexandra Walter was initially not accepted into the parliamentary group due to suspicion of spreading right-wing extremist ideas. Nikolaus Pethö , who should also have been elected deputy chairman of the parliamentary group, died one day earlier on January 17, 2019 .

organization

The party organs of the state association are the state party congress and the state board. The regional arbitration tribunal decides on internal party disputes and can expel members. The regional office is located in Frankfurt am Main .

State party conference

The highest party organ is the state party congress . It elects the state board , the auditors and the state arbitration court. If the number of party members exceeds 500, the state party congress does not take place as a general assembly, but as an assembly of delegates. The district associations each send a representative for five members. If the number of members of the regional association exceeds 2,000, there is one representative for every ten members. The state election assembly, which is used to draw up the list of candidates for state or federal elections, can take place as a membership or delegate assembly.
