The NPD Hessen is the state association of the NPD in Hessen . In the state elections in Hesse in 1966 , she was able to move into the Hessian state parliament for the first and so far only time . The state chairman has been Daniel Lachmann since April 2018.

history

After the founding of the NPD in 1964, regional associations quickly formed. The State Association of Hesse was established in 1965 and Heinrich Fassbender was elected the first state chairman. In Hessen, too, the structures of the dissolving DRP formed the basis of the organization of the new party.

The election campaign for the state elections in Hesse in 1966 was also intensively supported by the other regional associations. The NPD concentrated on the rural areas and the strongholds of the previous DRP. In the state elections, with 7.9% and 8 seats, the party's first entry into a German state parliament. It benefited from the grand coalition governing the federal government . Through this alliance, the CDU had moved into the middle, and the NPD managed to win over dissatisfied voters from the right wing.

The election statistics showed that the voters of the NPD Hessen in this election were predominantly middle-aged men:

Age Men Women total
21–29 years 8.2% 4.7% 6.5%
30–44 years 10.0% 6.4% 8.2%
45–59 years 12.6% 7.7% 9.8%
60 years - ... 8.6% 4.7% 6.5%
total 10.0% 6.0% 7.9%

In the state parliament, the members of the NPD were isolated. For example, the main committee was reduced in size and the D'Hondt procedure was used in appointing the committees , which disadvantages small parties. This also prevented the NPD from participating in the council of elders , the presidium and the broadcasting council of the HR . The work of the party and parliamentary group was soon characterized by controversy, which culminated with the resignation of state chairman Heinrich Fassbender on November 7, 1970.

Previously, however, the party had again celebrated a success in the local elections in Hesse in 1968 and won a number of municipal mandates. However, all but one of the 69 seats in districts and cities in Hesse were lost in the next local election.

The election victory remained an episode. The CDU Hessen pursued consistent opposition policy under Alfred Dregger . Together with the end of the grand coalition, this meant that voters on the right-wing edge turned to the Union and the NPD shrank to insignificance within one election period.

In the local elections in Hesse on March 10, 1989 , the NPD achieved a nationwide success. With the slogan "Frankfurt must remain a German city", the NPD convinced 6.6% of the voters. The NPD particularly addressed younger voters. In the group of 18 to 24 year old male voters, an agreement of 13% was achieved.

In the local elections in Hesse in 1993 , the right-wing extremist voter potential in Frankfurt was no longer exhausted by the NPD, but by the Republicans , who received 9.3% of the vote. The NPD was only elected to the district council in one district, the Darmstadt-Dieburg district , with 5.9% of the votes. The local political focus of the NPD in Hesse was the municipality of Wölfersheim . In 1993 the NPD received 20.9% of the vote there.

A similar picture emerged in the local elections that followed. In the local elections in Hesse in 1997 , the NPD ran in five districts, two independent towns and twelve towns and municipalities belonging to the district and won a total of 30 municipal mandates. The strongholds were Leun (21.5%), Wölfersheim (22.7%) and Ehringshausen (22.9%). The state-wide result of 0.6% was far below the 2001 local elections in Hesse with 0.2%. The NPD ran for candidates in three counties and eight municipalities and has just lost most of its voters in its strongholds.

In the local elections in 2006 , the NPD had 6 seats in district assemblies or urban districts. This result was confirmed in 2011 .

In the local elections in Hesse in 2016 , the NPD achieved an average result of 0.4%. It was able to win 16 mandates in four municipalities ( Altenstadt : 4 (10.0%), Büdingen : 4 (10.2%), Leun : 3 (11.2%), Wetzlar : 5 (7.7%)) and five mandates in three districts ( Main-Kinzig district : 1 (0.9%), Wetterau district : 2 (2.2%), Lahn-Dill district : 2 (2.0%)). The AfD did not stand for election in the four communities . In the city of Wetzlar, Rainer Przybylski was elected an honorary city councilor by the city council.

In state elections the party did not happen a long time, achieved in the 1990 results in tenths of a percent, but was able to establish around since 2008 with results of 1% of the valid votes cast at a low level. In the state elections in 2013 , the NPD managed to jump over the 1% hurdle, which is important for party financing .
