Joana Eleonora Cotar (born April 6, 1973 in Piteşti , Romania ) is a Romanian - German event manager and politician ( AfD ). In the 2017 federal election , she entered the 19th German Bundestag via the Hesse state list .

education and profession

When Joana Cotar was five years old, her family fled the Ceaușescu regime to Germany. In 1993, Cotar passed her Abitur at the Burggymnasium Friedberg . She graduated from the University of Mannheim with a degree in political science and German in 1999. After her marriage in 2000, Cotar moved to Switzerland for a few years.

After her training, she worked as an event manager for financial institutions in Germany and Switzerland, then as an independent project manager .

politics

During her studies, Cotar was a member of the CDU and was on the board of the CDU Mannheim- Schwetzingerstadt / Oststadt .

Cotar joined the Alternative für Deutschland in 2013 and was elected a little later as co-chair of the Hessian state association . In July 2014, she resigned after internal disputes. She stated that she no longer wanted to support the practice of the Hessian state chairman Gunther Nickel of addressing other party members with warnings.

In 2013, Cotar ran for the Hessian state parliament in 6th place on the list . However, the AfD missed the five percent hurdle in the state election , so the party did not win any seats.

She has been a member of the Giessen District Council since 2016 .

In 2016, Cotar ran for the state list of the AfD Hessen for the 2017 federal election . The state party conference of the Hessian AfD voted them third on the state list. However, the list election had to be repeated due to various irregularities. The repeat party congress even voted Cotar second on the country list. In the 2017 federal election, the AfD in Hesse received 11.9 percent of the second vote. Cotar thus moved into the Bundestag as the second of a total of six elected candidates on the state list. There she is a full member and chairwoman of the Digital Agenda Committee and a deputy member of the Committee on European Union Affairs and the Committee on Home Affairs.

Positions

Cotar - like large parts of her party - strongly criticizes the federal government's refugee policy and criticizes the fact that the borders were not closed. She supports the CSU in its demand for an upper limit for asylum seekers and criticizes the fact that the party has moved away from it.
