Rainer Rahn (born January 26, 1952 in Karlsruhe ) is a German politician ( AfD ) and dentist . He has been a member of the Hessian state parliament since January 2019 .

Life

Rainer Rahn was born in Karlsruhe on January 26, 1952. He studied law , human medicine and dentistry at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , where he received his doctorate in both medical subjects and completed his habilitation in dentistry . As a dentist, he worked in the Polyclinic for Dental Surgery at the Carolinum of the University Hospital in Frankfurt and wrote several non-fiction books.

Since 2006 he has been a member of the Frankfurt city council . From 2006 to 2011 he was chairman of the FAG parliamentary group (FAG = Frankfurt airport expansion opponents). From June 2011 to September 2012 he was a member of the parliamentary group of the Free Democratic Party (FDP). In autumn 2012, Rahn and two other city councilors founded the Roman parliamentary group, which he became chairman of. From December 2015 to April 2016 he was a non-attached member of the city council.

In April 2018, Rahn was elected to number one on the state list for the state elections on October 28, 2018 in Hesse at the state party conference of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) in Neu-Isenburg . After the successful election, he moved into the 20th Hessian state parliament in January 2019 .

Rahn caused a sensation and outrage when, after the right-wing terrorist attack in Hanau in 2020, he claimed that the operation of shisha bars had a “significant potential for disruption” and that such disruptions would “somehow also contribute to such an act”. Politicians from other parties then accused him of intellectual arson and a perpetrator-victim reversal .

In May 2020, Rahn wrote to his group colleagues in a letter that an employee of the AfD parliamentary group had sent him a list of misconduct that he (Rahn) had committed as a member of the parliamentary group. Rahn wrote that he was reminded of “the GDR or North Korea”.
