Positions on homosexuality

After the state parliament debate on June 2, 2016 about the approval of the state of Saxony-Anhalt to the asylum compromise in the Federal Council , an interjection from Andreas Gehlmann attracted attention. In the debate, the Left MP Henriette Quade said: “[...] if you take a closer look, the countries in question [Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria] are by no means safe. For homosexuals in particular, the security situation is more than precarious. It is forbidden and highly taboo. Those who openly live out homosexuality face a prison sentence. "

During this passage Gehlmann made the following interjection: “We should do that in Germany too!” The minutes of the meeting list this statement after Quade's last sentence and suggest the interpretation that Gehlmann wanted to threaten homosexuals with prison.

In a press release by the AfD Saxony-Anhalt on June 3, 2016, it was said that Gehlmann had already made his statement after Quade's penultimate sentence of this section of speech. The press release also stated that her group member continued to "unreservedly" stand by this statement, "because he strongly rejects moral decay and even sexuality that is openly lived out in general". A corresponding change to the protocol was rejected by the President of the Landtag, Hardy Güssau ; he had no doubt that the sentence was like that.
