Hardy Peter Güssau (* 20th October 1962 in Stendal ) is a German politician of the CDU and member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt . From April to August 2016 he was President of the State Parliament .

Professional background

Güssau graduated from the Winckelmann School in Stendal in 1981 and then did military service. He then began studying at the Humboldt University in Berlin, which he graduated in 1989 as a graduate teacher. From 1989 he was in the school service, since 1991 as a high school teacher. Since 2006 he has been a retired grammar school teacher and a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt.

Politics and honorary positions

Hardy Peter Güssau joined the CDU on June 17, 1990. Since 1999 he has been on the board of the CDU city association Stendal, from 2005 to 2009 as deputy chairman and since 2009 as its chairman.

In 1999, Hardy Peter Güssau was elected to the city council in Stendal and has been chairman of the council since 2000.

Since 2004 he has been a member of the district board of the CDU district association Stendal, from 2004 to 2014 he was an assessor. Hardy Peter Güssau has been treasurer of the CDU district association in Stendal since 2014. He has been a member of the Stendal District Council since 2009 and represents the parliamentary group in the Committee on Construction and Transport.

Hardy Peter Güssau has been a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt since 2006 . In the 5th electoral period from 2006 to 2011 he was a member of the Finance Committee and the Committee for Regional Development and Transport, as well as a deputy member of the Petitions Committee and the Committee for Education, Science and Culture.

Hardy Peter Güssau was re-elected in the 2011 state election. In the 6th electoral period he was a member and deputy chairman of the Committee for Regional Development and Transport and spatial planning policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group. He was also a member of the Education and Culture Committee, chaired the Education and Culture working group of the CDU parliamentary group and is also the parliamentary group's spokesperson for education policy. As a deputy member, he was on the Finance Committee and the Council of Elders.

Since April 12, 2016 he has been President of the State Parliament of Saxony-Anhalt. The Magdeburg Volksstimme uncovered his involvement in covering up the election scandal in Stendal . However, Güssau denies any cooperation.

On August 15, 2016, Hardy Peter Güssau announced that he would step down from the office of President of the State Parliament on August 21, 2016.
