Dieter Steinecke (born February 11, 1944 in Biere ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He was a member from 2002 to 2016 and from 2006 to 2011 and from 2015 to 2016 President of the State Parliament of Saxony-Anhalt .

Life

Steinecke completed vocational training at the Magdeburg chemical plant Fahlberg-List in the 1950s . After completing his degree in mechanical engineering in Magdeburg , he joined the CDU in 1976. Since 1975 Steinecke worked in the municipal housing administration in Magdeburg before he became city councilor in Magdeburg and mayor for personnel and law in the course of the political change in 1990 . From 1995 to 2001 Dieter Steinecke was councilor for the environment, economy and general administration of the state capital Magdeburg. When the new members were elected in 2001, Steinecke was no longer able to assert himself in the city council because he lacked support in the ranks of the CDU parliamentary group.

In the 2002 state elections in Saxony-Anhalt, Steinecke competed in the SPD-dominated Magdeburg. Somewhat surprisingly, the CDU became the strongest party nationwide and Steinecke was also able to win his constituency directly. In 2002, 2006 and 2011 he entered the state parliament as a member of the state parliament for the south of Magdeburg ( state constituency Magdeburg IV ). From 2003 to 2005, Steinecke was chairman of the Eighth Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry ("Becker Committee of Inquiry"). In April 2006 he was elected President of the Landtag of Saxony-Anhalt with a large majority (96.8%) . Together with Prime Minister Wolfgang Böhmer , he headed the Network for Democracy and Tolerance until 2011 and in 2006 launched the “Look! For a democratic and tolerant Saxony-Anhalt ”. Steinecke is the chairman of the Saxony-Anhalt regional association in the German War Graves Commission .

In the state elections on March 20, 2011 in the south of Magdeburg, Steinecke won 33.5% of the first votes and was able to win his constituency ahead of the left-wing top candidate Wulf Gallert (26.6%) and the SPD state chief Katrin Budde (24.8%) win directly for the third time. At 67, Steinecke was the oldest member of the new state parliament. He therefore opened the constituent session of the state parliament as old-age president. Steinecke did not run again for the election of the state parliament president. After the resignation of his successor in office Detlef Gürth , Steinecke was re-elected President of the State Parliament on December 9, 2015. In the state elections on March 13, 2016, Steinecke was no longer a candidate. His successor as President of the Landtag was Hardy Güssau on April 12, 2016 .

In 2009 and 2010, Steinecke was a member of the 13th and 14th Federal Assemblies.

Awards

On December 17, 2014, Steinecke was awarded the Great Cross of Merit for his services.

On October 20, 2016, Steinecke received the Bundeswehr Cross of Honor in gold.
