Adolf Spotka

Adolf Spotka (born February 23, 1943 in Tachau ; † October 9, 2019 in Bernburg (Saale) ) was a German industrial engineer and politician . As a member of the CDU , he was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt from 1990 to 2006 and was its president from 2002 to 2006. From 1993 to 2001 he taught as a professor at the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences . In November 2006 he was elected chairman of the university's board of trustees.

Career

Spotka was born in the Sudetenland , but came to Bernburg (Saale) during the turmoil of World War II , where he also grew up. After attending primary school (1949–1957) and graduating from Karl Marx Oberschule (1961; today Carolinum Bernburg High School ), he trained as a locksmith at the Bernburg soda factory. In 1962 he started studying industrial engineering at the Technical University of Merseburg , which he completed in 1967. He then worked as an export engineer for two years, then from 1968 to 1990 as a research assistant, senior assistant and university lecturer . During this time he did his doctorate in 1975 at the TH Leuna-Merseburg and completed his habilitation in 1988 at the Martin Luther University in Halle .

In 1993 he was appointed professor for economics / research management at the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences and was a member of the professors' group until 2001. As chairman of the board of trustees, he has been advising the university management since November 2006.

His political career began in 1990 when he joined the CDU. In the first state election after the reorganization of the state of Saxony-Anhalt in October 1990, Spotka entered the state parliament as a member of the CDU. He was a member of it until he voluntarily renounced his candidacy in 2006. During this time he was among other things chairman of the fiduciary investigation committee. In 2002 he was elected President of the State Parliament to succeed Wolfgang Schaefer . He was chairman of the conference of state parliament presidents and speaker of the state parliaments in the joint commission for the modernization of the federal order. The extensive reform of parliamentary work in the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt falls during his term of office.

Spotka always remained closely connected to his hometown of Bernburg (Saale). From 1993 to 1999 he was the district chairman of the CDU Bernburg and since 1999 has been a member of the Bernburg (Saale) city council. Since 1993 he has served as deputy chairman of the Bernburg Cultural Foundation.

In 2004 Spotka was a member of the 12th Federal Assembly .

Awards

On March 15, 2007, Spotka was awarded the Great Federal Cross of Merit for his services .
