Wolfgang Schaefer

Wolfgang Schaefer (* 6. June 1934 in Halberstadt , † 12. June 2003 ) was a German politician of the SPD . He was from 1994 to 1998 Finance Minister of Saxony-Anhalt and from 1998 to 2002, President of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt .

Life and work

After attending secondary school, he studied physics at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . After successfully completing this, he worked in the laboratory for analytical measurement technology at the Wolfen film factory . Here he was entrusted with leading activities in the field of reconstruction and investment measures. As a result of the reprimand as an enemy of the SED in 1972, Schaefer was denied all leadership functions.

Schaefer was married and had one child.

Political party

1989 Schaefer joined the Social Democratic Party in the GDR (SDP). From 1992 he was on the state executive committee of the SPD.

Political mandates

Schaefer was elected to the Bitterfeld district council in 1990 . Here he worked as an alderman / department head for economics. In June 1994 he became a city councilor in Bitterfeld . Schaefer had been a member of the state parliament since the first electoral term. Here he held the post of President of the State Parliament from 1998 to 2002. He represented the constituency of Bitterfeld in the state parliament. Wolfgang Schaefer was Finance Minister in Reinhard Höppner's first cabinet (1994 to 1998).
