Michael Richter (politician)

Michael Richter (born June 27, 1954 in Berlin ) is a German political official and since June 20, 2019 Finance Minister of the State of Saxony-Anhalt.

Life and work

After finishing school, Richter studied law at the Free University of Berlin from 1974 to 1980 , and passed the state examinations in law in 1980 and 1982. He then became a freelancer in a law firm. In 1983 he joined the tax administration of the State of Berlin . From 1984 to 1989 he worked at the Charlottenburg-Ost tax office , then until 1996 in the Senate Department for Finance, where he rose to head of department. Richter then moved to the Oberfinanzdirektion Cottbus as head of the property and traffic tax department . From 2003 he was head of department in the Brandenburg Ministry of Economic Affairs (from 2009: Ministry for Economic Affairs and European Affairs) and from 2008 to 2009 in the role of State Secretary.

Richter is married and has one child.

From April 20, 2011 to October 31, 2012, Richter was State Secretary in the Ministry of Science and Economics of the State of Saxony-Anhalt ( Haseloff I cabinet ) led by Birgitta Wolff ( CDU ). On November 1, 2012, Richter moved to the Ministry of Finance of the State of Saxony-Anhalt as Heiko Geue's successor as State Secretary under Jens Bullerjahn ( SPD ) . With effect from November 1, 2015, he was seconded from the Ministry of Finance to the Ministry of Interior and Sport. Since April 27, 2016, Richter was again exclusively State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance. On November 20, 2012, he also took on the role of the State Government Commissioner for Information Technology - Chief Information Officer (CIO) - of the State of Saxony-Anhalt. On June 20, 2019, Richter was appointed Finance Minister of Saxony-Anhalt as the successor to the resigned André Schröder .

Richter is deputy chairman of the CDU community association Großbeeren . He is the mayor of Kleinbeeren, a member of the main committee and chairman of the committee for building, community development and the environment of Großbeeren.
