Reinhold Hilbers (born July 25, 1964 in Lingen (Ems) ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He has been Lower Saxony's finance minister since November 22, 2017 , and is also a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament .

Life

After completing his training as a wholesale and foreign trade merchant, he obtained his technical college certificate and then did his military service in the German armed forces . He then studied business administration at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences . Since 1999 he has been the administrative manager of Lebenshilfe Nordhorn GmbH.

Hilbers has been a member of the CDU since 1988 and is currently a member of the CDU district association Grafschaft Bentheim , in whose district council he sits. Since March 2003 he has been a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament and chairman of the CDU's parliamentary group in the county council of Bentheim.

In 2003 Reinhold Hilbers was elected with 72.2% as a directly elected member of the state parliament in his constituency 88 Emlichheim . Due to the reorganization and downsizing of the state parliament, the constituency was merged with the constituency Nordhorn for the upcoming election. The new constituency of Grafschaft Bentheim includes the cities of Bad Bentheim and Nordhorn, the municipality of Wietmarschen and the municipalities of Emlichheim, Neuenhaus and Uelsen. In the state elections in 2008 he achieved a first vote result of 55.6 percent, in 2013 a result of 52.75 percent. From 2009 to 2013 he was budgetary spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group in the Lower Saxony state parliament . Since 2013 he has been deputy parliamentary group leader for budget, finance and social affairs.

In the run-up to the state elections in 2017 , Hilbers was appointed to the shadow cabinet of the CDU top candidate Bernd Althusmann ; he should take over the social department.

After the coalition negotiations were concluded on November 16, 2017, Hilbers was appointed Lower Saxony Minister of Finance in the Weil II cabinet on November 22, 2017 . In this function he is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of NORD / LB. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of KfW, a member of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Messe AG and Salzgitter AG since January 2018, and a full member of the Federal Council since 2017 .

Hilbers is a Roman Catholic denomination, has four children with his wife Martina and lives in Lohne (Wietmarschen) .

He is an honorary member of the board of the Kolping Bildungswerk eV, Salzbergen.
