Edith Sitzmann (born January 4, 1963 in Regensburg ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) and has been a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg , where she represents the constituency of Freiburg II , since August 2002 . From 2011 to 2016 she was parliamentary group leader of the Green parliamentary group. She has been Finance Minister in the Kretschmann II cabinet since May 2016 .

Life

education and profession

Edith Sitzmann studied history and art history at the universities of Freiburg im Breisgau , Regensburg and Heidelberg . In 1989 she graduated with a Magister Artium . From 1989 to 1991 she worked as a tour guide and organized a. a. Educational trips for American students. From 1991 to 1993 she was managing director of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Freiburg. From 1993 to 2001 she was the personal assistant to the state parliament member Dieter Salomon . Since 1994 she has also worked as a freelance moderator, trainer and consultant for non-profit organizations . In 2001 she started her own business .

Political activity

Edith Sitzmann has been a member of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen since 1992 . From 1993 to 1994 she was a member of the district board of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen, and from 1995 to 1999 she was a member of the regional council. From 1995 to 2000 she was also a member of the awarding board of the state eco-fund . From 1994 to 1998 she was an institutional adviser at the JVA Freiburg . Since 1996 she was a substitute applicant for the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg in the constituency of Freiburg II (West). On August 30, 2002, she stood up for the resigned MP Dieter Salomon in the Stuttgart state parliament.

Edith Sitzmann was deputy parliamentary group chairman between 2006 and 2009. As a member of the state parliament, she was responsible for culture, economy, the labor market and housing construction. She was a member of the Enquete Commission "Demographic Change - Challenges to State Politics" of the State Parliament. In June 2009 Edith Sitzmann was elected to the Freiburg municipal council.

On March 27, 2011 she won the direct mandate in the constituency of Freiburg II in the 2011 state elections in Baden-Württemberg with 39.9% . From May 2011 to May 2016 Edith Sitzmann was parliamentary group leader of the green parliamentary group. In the state elections in 2016, Edith Sitzmann was able to expand the result. With 40.5% she won the direct mandate again.

In May 2016 Edith Sitzmann was appointed Minister of Finance for Baden-Württemberg. She continues to exercise her parliamentary mandate. At the beginning of 2020, she announced that she would no longer run for the state election in 2021 and would withdraw from politics.
