Katrin Schütz (born March 20, 1967 in Ettlingen ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 2006 to 2016 she was a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg . From April 2014 to June 2016 she was Secretary General of the CDU Baden-Württemberg and since May 2016 she has been State Secretary in the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs .

Life and work

Katrin Schütz is the oldest of eight siblings. She lived in the USA for five years.

Schütz is Catholic, married and the mother of two sons born in 1991 and 1994. In her free time, Katrin Schütz is a passionate runner. She has already successfully participated in marathons and half marathons in Paris, Berlin, New York and Karlsruhe.

After graduating from school, she completed an apprenticeship as a dressmaker in the trade. She then worked as a buyer, department head and was subsequently managing director of a medium-sized retail company in Karlsruhe for 15 years. She worked as a professional training instructor for 20 years.

Political career

Katrin Schütz ended her entrepreneurial activity when she switched to politics in 2006. She obtained the direct mandate of constituency II of the city of Karlsruhe (Karlsruhe-West, state constituency 28) for the CDU and was a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg until 2016 . During her time as a member of parliament, from 2006 to 2011 she was vice-chairwoman of the science committee and a member of the economic committee. From 2011 to 2016 Schütz was a member of the Finance and Economic Committee and chair of the Integration Committee. From 2009 to 2010 Katrin Schütz was a member of the study commission “Fit for life in the knowledge society - vocational schools, training and further education”. From 2011 to 2014 Schütz was also a member of the “EnBW Deal” investigation committee. Since May 2016, Katrin Schütz has been State Secretary in the Ministry of Economics, Labor and Housing in Baden-Württemberg .

Since 2009 she has been a member of the state board of the CDU Baden-Württemberg , from 2011 to 2015 she was the deputy state chairwoman of the Women's Union Baden-Württemberg. Schütz has been the district chairwoman of the Frauen Union Nordbaden since 2009. On April 14, 2014, Schütz was appointed acting general secretary of the CDU Baden-Württemberg at the suggestion of Thomas Strobl . It was confirmed at the 66th state party conference on January 24, 2015 in Ulm.

Since the state elections in 2016, Schütz has been State Secretary of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economics.

Schütz was particularly involved in the future initiative “Dialogue and Perspective Crafts 2025”. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Baden-Württemberg Crafts Day (BWHT) want to secure the future of the craft in the south-west with the initiative. The state made 4.4 million euros available by the end of 2019 for a jointly developed package of measures.

State Secretary Schütz always emphasizes the importance of vocational training and its equivalence with academic training. It is very important to her to convince more young people of the good career opportunities that result from it. The apprenticeships offer a future-proof career perspective, which should be used by young people.

With the state initiative women in MINT professions, State Secretary Schütz also focused on promoting women in technical and scientific professions. The aim is to motivate women to make greater use of these excellent STEM opportunities in Baden-Württemberg

Volunteering

Katrin Schütz had been a member of the board of the Wirtschaftsjunioren Baden-Württemberg since 2001 and chaired it from 2002 to 2003. In the three years from 2002 to 2005 she was the executive member of the Federal Board of Directors of the German Junior Chamber .

In 2003 she was the initiator of the "relay run from Offenburg to Berlin". The idea of ​​the relay race was to promote reforms in politics through events and public relations work nationwide and to promote social engagement within and outside of the association.
