The Scott-Wieselmaki ( Lepilemur Scottorum ) is an on Madagascar living primate species from the group of lemurs within the lemurs . The species was first described in 2008 . The name honors the Scott family, whose foundation financially supported the research and conservation efforts of the Malagasy primates.

description

Scottish weasel lemurs are medium-sized weasel lemurs with an average weight of 0.88 kilograms. Their long, dense fur is predominantly reddish-brown in color, and a dark, diffuse eel line runs on the back . As with all weasel lemurs, the head is round, the face is gray, the cheeks and eyebrows are white. The hind legs are long and strong as an adaptation to vertical climbing and jumping locomotion.

Scottish weasel lemurs inhabit the Masoala peninsula in eastern Madagascar, an area that has previously been assigned to the common weasel lemur. The habitat of this species are tropical rainforests .

Little is known about the way of life of this newly discovered species. Like all weasel lemurs, they are likely to be nocturnal tree dwellers and feed on plant material, especially leaves, fruits and buds.

Hazards and protective measures

This species is seriously endangered in its population due to the loss of its habitat and hunting. The IUCN classifies them as Endangered (endangered). The only protected habitat of this species is in Masoala National Park .
