Petra Olschowski
Petra Olschowski (born June 29, 1965 in Stuttgart , occasionally under the pseudonym Petra von Olschowski ) is a German art historian and journalist . From September 2010 to May 2016 she was the rector of the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart . From 2013 to 2016 she was chairwoman of the Württembergischer Kunstverein . In 2016, she was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts in the Kretschmann II cabinet .
Life
education
Petra Olschowski graduated from the Eberhard-Ludwigs-Gymnasium in Stuttgart . After an apprenticeship as a retail saleswoman at the Kunsthaus Schaller, Stuttgart, she studied art history and German at the University of Stuttgart and wrote her master's thesis on the large-format woodcuts in the work of HAP Grieshaber .
Professional background
Petra Olschowski initially worked as an editor for the Stuttgarter Zeitung before taking over the management of the Baden-Württemberg Art Foundation in July 2002 . She curated numerous exhibitions and published mainly on the topics of contemporary art and dance. From September 1, 2010 to May 11, 2016, she held the office of rector at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart. She was the first woman in this position since the university (or its predecessor institution) was founded in 1761. On November 7, 2013, she was elected chairwoman of the Württemberg Art Association. On May 12, 2016 she was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg .
Surname
Olschowski's family lost their title of nobility with the Austrian Nobility Repeal Act of 1919. Nevertheless, Petra Olschowski often appeared under the name of “von Olschowski”. After her appointment as State Secretary, she announced that she would forego this in the future. In July 2016, the Baden-Württemberg FDP / DVP parliamentary group criticized in a parliamentary question that the addition of “von” to the name was not permitted under German naming law . The Interior Ministry said that Olschowski only used the suffix in her pseudonym , which is permissible.
