Peter Hauk (* 24. December 1960 in Walldürn ) is a German politician of the CDU . He has been a member of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament since 1992 , where he was parliamentary group leader of the CDU for several years . From 2005 to 2010 he was Minister for Food and Rural Areas in this state. From the state election in 2011 until Guido Wolf was elected parliamentary group leader in January 2015, he was the opposition leader in the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg . Since May 12, 2016 he has been Minister for Rural Areas again in the Kretschmann II cabinet .

education and profession

Peter Hauk grew up in Rippberg in the Odenwald and graduated from the Karl-Ernst-Gymnasium Amorbach in 1980 . After doing basic military service with the Panzer Grenadiers in Munster and Walldürn , he studied forest sciences at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and graduated with a degree in forestry.

He then worked as a research assistant at the Freiburg Forest Research and Research Institute in the field of land maintenance . After completing his legal clerkship at the State Forestry Administration of Baden-Württemberg in Gundelsheim , Stuttgart and Künzelsau , he passed the Great State Forest Examination in 1989 . From 1989 to 1991 he served as Forsteinrichter in the Forest Agency Freiburg in Lahr and Staufen operates. Until 1999, Hauk was deputy head of the Schöntal Forestry Office (Jagst). From 1999 to 2001 he was project manager at the Forest Research and Research Institute in Baden-Württemberg and from 2001 to 2005 head of the Adelsheim Forestry Office . Hauk also worked early on in political activities as chairman of the JU Walldürn from 1985 to 1989, district chairman of the JU Neckar-Odenwald district from 1987 to 1995 and 1987 to 1991 as a member of the JU district board. Peter Hauk is a member of the board of directors of the CDU Neckar-Odenwald-Kreis and the CDU North Baden and became deputy district chairman of the CDU North Baden in 1993. Since 2013 he has been the chairman of the CDU North Baden. He prevailed with more than 75% of the votes against Thomas Schäuble's widow and Gaggenau mayor Brigitte Schäuble. 1984 to 1988 he was involved in the local council in Rippberg , from 1999 to 2004 in the district council. Since 2010 he has been a member of the state board of the CDU Baden-Württemberg .

State Parliament and State Government

Peter Hauk has been a member of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament since 1992 . After the state elections in 1996, Peter Hauk became chairman of the working group for rural areas and agriculture in the CDU parliamentary group. In 1998 he became vice chairman of the parliamentary group with the business areas Environment / Transport and Rural Areas / Agriculture. At the same time he held the function of parliamentary managing director of the CDU parliamentary group in the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg.

Since 1992, Hauk has always been a member of the state parliament through the direct mandate in constituency 38 Neckar-Odenwald . In the state elections in 2011 he received 48.4 percent of the vote, almost ten percentage points above the national average.

From April 2005 to February 2010 Peter Hauk was Minister for Nutrition and Rural Areas in Baden-Württemberg . After Günther Oettinger gave up the chairmanship of the CDU parliamentary group in 2005 to become prime minister, Hauk applied for his successor as Oettinger's preferred candidate, but was defeated by Stefan Mappus in a ballot . After Mappus became Prime Minister, Hauk was elected chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the Baden-Württemberg state parliament on February 10, 2010 with 43 of 69 votes from the CDU MPs. After the state elections in 2011, Hauk was confirmed in this office and took over the role of opposition leader through the change of government .

In May 2014, after massive criticism from within the party, Hauk distanced himself from his suggestion that the CDU could continue to form a coalition with the AfD .

Since May 2016, Hauk has again been Minister for Rural Areas, Consumer Protection and Agriculture in Baden-Württemberg.

Political positions, controversies and criticism

After the presentation of the pesticide report by the Naturschutzbund (Nabu) in March 2018, Hauk replied to the reporter's question “Is it not understandable that the population wants to know how much poison is being applied?” With the answer “Yes, but that is what the population is initially at first nothing. ”In the further course of the answer he referred to the farmer's power of disposal and that they are not accountable to anyone. A few days later he apologized for his testimony on the grounds that he had reacted too emotionally.

Until the end of 2007, Peter Hauk was a member of the Board of Directors of Landwirtschaftliche Rentenbank . He is chairman of the foundation board of Landesbank Baden-Württemberg , member of the supervisory board of Baden-Württembergische Bank and member of the advisory board of L-Bank .

Family and private

Peter Hauk has two children and lives in the city of Adelsheim . He has been a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. since 1981. Wildenstein Freiburg im Breisgau in CV and honorary organist in the Osterburken suburb of Hemsbach. Since July 2016 he has been married to the Rheinstetten CDU chair Julia Kühn for the third time.
