Friedrichsbau : Branch of the L-Bank in Stuttgart

The L-Bank (full name: Landeskreditbank Baden-Württemberg - Förderbank ) is the state development institute of the state of Baden-Württemberg and a German credit institute in the legal form of an institution under public law with headquarters in Karlsruhe and a branch in Stuttgart .

Legal basis

The legal basis for the bank is the L-Bank law of November 11, 1998 of the state of Baden-Württemberg and the statutes issued by the state government. The state of Baden-Württemberg is the guarantor and bears the institutional burden. The organs of the bank are the management board as the managing body and the administrative board as the supervisory body.

The L-Bank's legal predecessor is the former Landeskreditbank Baden-Württemberg , whose funding part was transferred to the newly established L-Bank with effect from December 1, 1998. The former Landeskreditbank Baden-Württemberg was created in 1972 through the merger of the Württemberg housing credit institution in Stuttgart (founded in 1924) with the Badische Landeskreditanstalt for housing construction in Karlsruhe (founded in 1934).

Organization and task

It is the development bank of the state of Baden-Württemberg. Its main tasks include the economic development of small and medium-sized enterprises , the promotion of housing construction , infrastructure and families with children (e.g. through parental allowance and support with educational measures ). It is not in competition with banks and savings banks , but works actively with them in developing financing solutions.

It also operates several technology parks in Baden-Württemberg through subsidiaries , including the Stuttgart Engineering Park (STEP) in Stuttgart-Vaihingen , the Karlsruhe Technology Park ( TPK), the Tübingen - Reutlingen Technology Park (TTR) and the Mannheim Technology Park (TPMA).

The balance sheet total as of December 31, 2019 was 77.6 billion euros. The L-Bank was thus in 15th place in the list of the largest banks in Germany . The bank has 1,307 employees.

The rating agencies Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s rate the L-Bank with Aaa or AA + with a stable outlook ("outlook stable").

Instrument collection

The bank owns a valuable collection of old musical instruments. The collection includes 18 string instruments, including 11 violins , 3 violas and 4 cellos , including 5 Stradivarius violins. The instruments are loaned to young artists and are therefore all in use.

Maurach Castle

Under a leasehold contract, L-Bank has been the owner of Schloss Maurach since 1985 , a baroque-style building complex below the Birnau pilgrimage church directly on the shores of Lake Constance near Uhldingen-Mühlhofen , which has been used as a congress center since 1988 after renovation and modernization work.

State winery Karlsruhe-Durlach
