Barbara Otte-Kinast (born September 18, 1964 in Ehmen near Wolfsburg ) is a German farmer and politician ( CDU ).

Life

After completing her secondary school diploma , she trained as a rural housekeeper . From 1985 to 1987 she was housekeeping manager in a large private household. Then she was housekeeping manager at a folk high school until 1992 . In Beber near Bad Münder , she was involved in expanding a dairy farm from 1992 to 2017 .

She is married to the farmer Jürgen Kinast and is the mother of three children.

politics

Barbara Otte-Kinast has been a member of the district council of the Hameln-Pyrmont district since 2004 and a member of the city ​​council of Bad Münder since 2017 . Since 2014 she has also been chairwoman of the Lower Saxony rural women’s association .

The top candidate and state chairman of the CDU in Lower Saxony, Bernd Althusmann , appointed her to his shadow cabinet , responsible for agriculture , in the run-up to the state elections in 2017 . After the election she was designated by the party as Minister of Agriculture in the planned grand coalition. With the formation of a grand coalition in Lower Saxony , she became Lower Saxony's Agriculture Minister on November 22, 2017 .
