Astrid Katharina Josefine Grotelüschen , b. Schober (born December 9, 1964 in Cologne ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and ecotrophologist . She has been a member of the German Bundestag since the 18th Bundestag election , after winning the direct mandate in the Delmenhorst - Wesermarsch - Oldenburg-Land constituency in the 2013 Bundestag election and the 2017 Bundestag election . She was already a directly elected member of the German Bundestag from 2009 to 2010 and from April to her resignation in December 2010 she was Lower Saxony's Minister for Food, Agriculture, Consumer Protection and Regional Development .

Life and work

Grotelüschen grew up in Brühl (Rhineland) , where she graduated from the Archbishop's St. Ursula-Gymnasium in 1984 . From 1984 to 1990 she studied household and nutritional sciences at the University of Bonn and graduated as a qualified ecotrophologist . She was the first in her family to graduate. During her apprenticeship, she worked (partly as an intern) in the food industry , the baker's and butcher's trade, in large kitchens, in senior citizens' homes and in agriculture. In the summer of 1990, she joined the family business of her in-laws, Germany's second largest turkey hatchery, Ahlhorn, and in 2001 took over the management together with her husband Garlich. In May 2010, Grotelüschen left the group in all functions. In 2011 she reoriented herself professionally and took up a job at Grotelüschen Immobilien und Verwaltungs GmbH & Co KG, where she was subsequently appointed managing director (GmbH).

Grotelüschen has three children and lives in Ahlhorn , in the municipality of Großenkneten , south of Oldenburg .

politics

Grotelüschen has been a member of the CDU since 2000 and has been deputy district chairwoman of her party in Oldenburg-Land since 2001 . She has been a member of the Großenkneten local council since 2001 and has been parliamentary group leader there since 2006; also since 2006 she is a member of the district council of the district of Oldenburg.

In the 2009 Bundestag election , she won constituency 29 (Delmenhorst - Wesermarsch - Oldenburg-Land) in Lower Saxony with 35.3% of the first votes and thus entered the Bundestag directly. She was able to prevail in the election against Holger Ortel ( SPD ), who had last won the constituency and has now entered the Bundestag via the state list. The SPD had won the constituency consistently for almost thirty years.

On April 19, 2010 she was introduced by Prime Minister Christian Wulff as the new Minister of Agriculture and on April 27, 2010, she was introduced into office as part of the Wulff II cabinet . She left the Bundestag with it, Ewa Klamt moved up for her . On December 17, 2010, she resigned from her ministerial office.

In the Bundestag election on September 22, 2013, she ran again in her former constituency, prevailed with a lead of just under 700 votes and thus entered the 18th German Bundestag , to which she has been a member since it met in mid-October 2013.

In the 18th legislative period, Grotelüschen has been the chairwoman of the “Subcommittee for Regional Economic Policy and ERP Economic Plans” since March 2014.

The election to the 19th German Bundestag took place on September 24, 2017. It won the constituency for the third time in a row with 34.1% and a lead of 2063 first votes.

In the 19th German Bundestag, Grotelüschen is deputy chairwoman of the subcommittee on regional economic policy and ERP economic plans. She is also a full member of the Committee for Economic Affairs and Energy and is represented as a deputy member of the Committee for Education, Research and Technology Assessment .

On April 9, 2020, she announced that she did not want to run again for the 2021 federal election.

criticism

In August 2010, Astrid Grotelüschen was reported by the animal rights organization PETA on suspicion of being involved in animal cruelty in turkey fattening facilities run by the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania producer group, of which Grotelüschen's husband holds 30%. The responsible public prosecutor's office in Oldenburg did not initiate an investigation against the Grotelüschen family at the beginning of October 2010 because the "Grotelüschen family ... is not responsible for these animal stalls".

In December 2010 she came under criticism again. The public prosecutor's office in Oldenburg investigated against the slaughterhouse Geestland Putenspezialitäten GmbH und Co. KG in Wildeshausen (district of Oldenburg), which belongs to the PHW Group and in which the turkey hatchery is a limited partner , on suspicion of aiding in illegal employment and illegal temporary employment. In 2012, charges were brought, but the trial of the allegations before the regional court has not yet taken place (as of February 2016).
