Christian Meyer (born July 23, 1975 in Holzminden ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). From February 19, 2013 to November 21, 2017, he was Minister for Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection of the State of Lower Saxony in Stephan Weil's cabinet .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1995 at Campe-Gymnasium Holzminden , Meyer completed community service in the speech therapy kindergarten of Lebenshilfe Holzminden. From 1996 to 2002 he studied economics , public law, political and media science at the University of Göttingen with a degree in social economics . In 2003 he worked for MEP Hiltrud Breyer in the areas of climate protection, the environment, energy and nuclear phase-out in Berlin and Brussels. From 2004 until he moved into the state parliament in 2008, he was managing director of the ecological tax reform association .

Christian Meyer is single and lives in Holzminden.

Political activity

Meyer was a councilor in the Holzminden city council from 2006 to 2013. He was also a member of the district assembly in Holzminden from 1996 to 2001 and has been a member of the district assembly in Holzminden since 1998, group spokesman from 2000 to 2001 and spokesman for the district assembly of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen from 2006 to 2013. In the state elections in Lower Saxony in 2008 , he entered the Lower Saxony state parliament for the first time via the state list .

After the state election on January 20, 2013 , he was again a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament. In the election, the SPD and the Greens achieved a majority from a state parliament mandate, after which both parties formed a government. On February 19, 2013, Christian Meyer was sworn in as Minister for Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection in the cabinet of Prime Minister Stephan Weil .

On August 29, 2013, Prime Minister Stephan Weil announced the recall of the State Secretary in the Lower Saxony Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, Udo Paschedag (Greens), who was thus put into temporary retirement. Paschedag had violated trust by providing incorrect written information about his company car . Meyer was accused of having known about the false note for weeks.

Memberships

Meyer is a member of BUND , Greenpeace , WWF , attac , FÖS , Holzmindener Tafel, citizens 'initiative Pro Fachhochschule Holzminden and the citizens ' initiative against the sale of Stadtwerke Holzminden .

He is also a board member of Rural Adult Education in Lower Saxony e. V. (LEB) and member of the environmental council of Lower Saxony Bingo! -Foundation, endowment. In 2015 the German professional and professional beekeeping association awarded him the “golden sting ” for his “exemplary commitment to beekeeping and bees ”.
