Hans-Heinrich ("Heiner") Ehlen (born August 20, 1949 in Zeven ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 1994 to 2017 he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament . and from 2003 to April 2010 Lower Saxony's Minister for Food, Agriculture, Consumer Protection and Regional Development .

Education, work and family

After finishing school in Kalbe and Sittensen , Ehlen completed an apprenticeship as a farmer up to and including a master craftsman's examination . From 1976 until he joined the state government in 2003, he ran his own business. Ehlen is married and has four children.

Political career

Ehlen was first active in local politics in the municipality of Kalbe and later in the district of Rotenburg (Wümme) . In 1993 he joined the CDU. From 2011 to 2017 he was chairman of the CDU district association Rotenburg.

From 1994 to 2017 Ehlen represented the Bremervörde constituency in the Lower Saxony state parliament. In the election to the 18th Lower Saxony state parliament , he decided not to run again.

After Christian Wulff took over government in 2003, he was Lower Saxony's Minister for Food, Agriculture, Consumer Protection and Regional Development (until 2008 Minister for Rural Areas, Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection). In the course of a cabinet reshuffle in April 2010, he was replaced in this office by Astrid Grotelüschen .

Hans-Heinrich Ehlen was a member of the administrative board of the Landwirtschaftliche Rentenbank .
