Wilfried Hasselmann
Wilfried Hasselmann (born July 23, 1924 in Celle ; † January 9, 2003 in Nienhof, Langlingen municipality , Celle district ) was a German farmer and politician ( CDU ).
Life and work
Wilfried Hasselmann was born on July 23, 1924, the son of the farmer and later politician Otto Hasselmann . After attending high school, he completed an apprenticeship at the agricultural college in Celle, which he completed with the assistant examination. From 1942 to 1945 he took part in the Second World War as an artillery officer . After the end of the war he worked in external companies. He passed the master craftsman's examination and in 1955 took over the family farm in Nienhof. In addition, he went through a career as a reserve officer in the artillery of the Bundeswehr , most recently as Colonel of the Reserve (1981).
Hasselmann was federal chairman of the Federation of German Rural Youth from 1962 to 1969 and at times a member of the regional synod of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover . In addition, he acted as chairman of the association committee of the Lower Saxony cooperative association, as chairman of the insurance advisory board of R + V Versicherung and as chairman of the supervisory board of Volksbank Aller / Oker in Müden (Aller) . He was also a member of the supervisory board of Industrieverwaltungsgesellschaft mbH and the Raiffeisen main cooperative in Hanover .
Hasselmann was married and had two sons. His uncle was the agricultural functionary Edmund Rehwinkel .
Political party
From September 1942 Hasselmann was a member of the NSDAP . In 1961 he joined the CDU; from 1969 he was a member of the CDU federal executive committee . From 1968 to 1990 he was state chairman of the CDU in Lower Saxony . After his resignation after losing the state elections in 1990 , he was elected honorary chairman of the Christian Democrats in Lower Saxony. After his death in January 2003, the CDU regional office in Lower Saxony was christened Wilfried-Hasselmann-Haus in his honor .
MP
Hasselmann was a member of the fifth to the twelfth Lower Saxony state parliament from 1963 to 1994 and was chairman of the CDU parliamentary group from 1970 to 1976. In the state election in 1974 he was nominated as the top candidate of his party. Although the CDU won most of the seats in parliament, Hasselmann was unable to assert himself in the election for prime minister . The members of the SPD , together with the votes of the FDP , elected Alfred Kubel as the new head of government instead of his .
Public offices
After the formation of a grand coalition of the SPD and CDU, Hasselmann was appointed to the government of Lower Saxony led by Prime Minister Georg Diederichs on May 19, 1965 as Lower Saxony's Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forestry . Due to the formation of an SPD sole government, he left office on July 8, 1970.
Hasselmann returned to the state government as Minister for Federal Affairs on February 13, 1976, after Ernst Albrecht had previously been elected Prime Minister. At the same time he was entrusted to continue the business of the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior until May 12, 1976 . On July 9, 1986, he finally took over the management of the Ministry of the Interior. From February 13, 1976 to January 19, 1977 and again from June 28, 1978 to October 31, 1988, he also assumed the office of Deputy Prime Minister. On October 31, 1988, he resigned from his government offices because he was accused of accepting donations in connection with the " casino affair ".
