Josef Stock (born July 11, 1938 in Wellingholzhausen , Melle district ) is a German politician ( CDU ).

Life

He is married and has two children. After primary school in Wellingholzhausen, Josef Stock attended the Carolinum grammar school in Osnabrück up to secondary school leaving certificate. This was followed by training as a retail salesman in order to enter the parents' retail business.

Stock was elected to the council of Wellingholzhausen in 1964 (until 1968) and was a member of the district assembly in the district of Melle from 1968 to 1972. From 1973 to 1989 he was chairman of the CDU in the city association of Melle and deputy chairman of the district association of the CDU Osnabrück-Land and in the Osnabrück-Emsland district association.

He represented his party in the Lower Saxony state parliament from June 21, 1974 to 1997. From 1976 he was the economic policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group and chairman of the business and transport working group. From April 29, 1982 to June 20, 1986 and from May 15, 1990 to June 20, 1994 he took over the deputy chairmanship of the CDU parliamentary group, from July 1, 1986 to November 8, 1988 he was its chairman. He was a member of the broadcasting council of the NDR . From November 9, 1988 to June 21, 1990, he was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior of Lower Saxony .

Stock had been the full-time mayor of his hometown Melle since 1997 and was unable to run again in the local elections in 2006 because he had reached the age limit . During his tenure as mayor, he initiated numerous projects that promoted Melle's attractiveness as a shopping and recreational town. He also carried out a reform of the city administration.
