Edmund Rehwinkel

Edmund Rehwinkel (born January 28, 1899 in Westercelle , † February 2, 1977 in Celle ) was a Lower Saxony agricultural politician and German peasant functionary.

Life and work

After military service in World War I, he became administrator of the Franzenburg domain near Cuxhaven . Later he took over the family business. After renewed military service in 1939, he became the farmer's chief in 1945 and a short time later the district administrator of his home district of Celle . From 1947 to 1971 he was president of the Lower Saxony rural people. As such, he organized the first German milk strike in 1951. When the German Farmers' Association was founded in 1948, he became its first vice-president. From 1954 to 1959 he was a member of a three-person executive presidential college, and then until 1969 he held the office of President of the German Farmers' Association. He was also chairman of the board of directors of the Landwirtschaftliche Rentenbank . Rehwinkel had a decisive influence on the agricultural policy of his time. His successor was Constantin Heereman von Zuydtwyck .

In addition to his political activities, he was also known as a poem writer. Heinz Erhardt immortalized Rehwinkel in the poem "Schach" .

Foundation, endowment

In 1974 the Landwirtschaftliche Rentenbank set up a foundation to promote agricultural research to honor Edmund Rehwinkel. The Edmund Rehwinkel Foundation was transferred to a legally independent foundation under civil law on December 12, 2007.
