Federation of German rural youth

The Bund der Deutschen Landjugend (BDL) eV is a registered association. His main concern is to maintain and improve the prospects for young people to live and stay in rural areas.

In Germany's largest youth association in rural areas, around 100,000 rural youth between the ages of 15 and 35 get involved in local, district and district groups as well as youth clubs of the 18 regional associations.

The association is the independent youth organization of the German Farmers' Association , the German Viticulture Association and the German Rural Women Association . As such, it is non-denominational and politically independent.

Federal Members' Assembly

The highest decision-making body are the federal members' assemblies, which take place twice a year and at which the federal executive board, with equal representation, is elected. The federal executive committee consists of two chairmen and two deputies each. Sebastian Schaller (since April 2016) and Kathrin Muus (since November 2018) lead the association as national chairmen. The office is located in Berlin .

tasks

The youth association takes care of the professional, political and cultural promotion and further education of young people in rural areas and works on a democratic basis.
With its work, the association would like to u. a .:

  • Create prospects for young farmers and young winemakers,
  • promote the participation of young people in all social and political and especially in all youth and agricultural policy areas and
  • to motivate young people to tolerant, social and critical behavior towards society and fellow human beings.

The association is financially supported by

  • the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth,
  • the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection,
  • the Franco-German Youth Office and
  • the agricultural pension bank.

history

The BDL was founded on December 18, 1949 in Fredeburg. From the very beginning it was a federation of the regional associations of rural youth. On August 27, 1950, the first German Rural Youth Day took place in Mainz with around 700 participants. On December 19, 2015, the transition from an unregistered association to a registered association was decided unanimously in the Federal Members' Meeting of the BDL.
