The Weil I cabinet was sworn in on February 19, 2013 as the new Lower Saxony state government under Prime Minister Stephan Weil ( SPD ). It replaced the black-yellow coalition in office since 2003 (since 2010 under David McAllister ). With the resignation of the Green MP Elke Twesten , the government lost its one-vote majority in early August 2017. On August 7, the parliamentary groups represented in the state parliament agreed on October 15, 2017 as the date for early state elections .
