Wolfgang Scheibel (born January 31, 1959 in Cloppenburg ) is a German legal scholar and political official . From 2013 to 2015 he was State Secretary of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice and has been President of the Braunschweig Higher Regional Court since 2015 .

Life

After studying law at the Georg-August University of Göttingen (1978-1984), the first state examination in law (1984) and subsequent legal clerkship with completion of the second state examination (1988) and working as a research assistant , Wolfgang Scheibel was from 1989 to 1992 worked as a public prosecutor at the Hanover public prosecutor's office and probationary judge at the Hanover regional court , the Burgwedel , Elze , Duderstadt , Osterode and Herzberg district courts and the Göttingen regional court . It was there that he became a judge in 1992. He held this post until he moved to the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice in 1999. There he became head of division in the prison division and was head of the ministerial office from 2001 to 2002.

Subsequently, the legal scholar was presiding judge at the Hanover Regional Court between 2001 and 2004 and at the Göttingen Regional Court from 2004 to 2006. He was also head of the State Judicial Examination Office of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice (2002–2003). Scheibel was appointed director of the Göttingen District Court in 2006 and President of the Braunschweig District Court in 2008.

In 2013 Wolfgang Scheibel was appointed State Secretary of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice in the Weil I cabinet by Minister Antje Niewisch-Lennartz . Hubert Böning became his successor at the Braunschweig Regional Court . On June 1, 2015, he left the Ministry and was appointed President of the Braunschweig Higher Regional Court; Stefanie Otte succeeded him in the Ministry of Justice .

Private

Scheibel is married and has two children.
