history

With the Hanoverian Courts Constitution Act of November 8, 1850, which came into force on October 1, 1852 , administration and justice were finally separated from one another. The Elze District Court was founded. In 1859 the district court of Gronau , which was also founded in 1852, was dissolved and placed under the jurisdiction of the Elzer court. The number of those sitting in court multiplied from around 4,500 to around 15,000, which led to the appointment of a second judge. After the end of the Second World War , the Elze District Court was initially a branch of the Alfeld District Court for about a year . At the end of 1946 the Elze District Court was reopened. After the Calenberg District Court was dissolved, further areas were added to the judicial district in 1932 and 1933. In 1976 the municipality of Nordstemmen was assigned to the Hildesheim District Court , but this was reversed in 1983. At the same time Elze lost other areas to the district court in Alfeld, so that the number of around 46,000 inhabitants decreased to around 38,000.

building

The court was initially housed in the town hall. Despite the city's promise to build its own local court building by 1854, the current building on Bahnhofstrasse was not opened until November 1859 . An annex was added in 1967 and a second floor was added in 1986.
