geography

Geographical location

Eime is located in the Leinebergland east of the Weserbergland Schaumburg-Hameln nature park . It is located south-southwest of Elze and west of Gronau (Leine). The Külf ridge with the Cölleturm observation tower extends southeast, and the Thüster Berg , including the Lönsturm observation tower , southwest.

Community structure

The districts of the municipality are:

history

According to Wilhelm Barner, the oldest demonstrable settlement in the Eime district was a Neolithic homestead in the deserted Assum desert, which was abandoned in the 12th or 13th century. In 1966 a Roman bronze bucket from around AD 200 was excavated during construction work in the village of Eime .

The oldest written mention of Eimes comes from July 1209 and is in the document book of the Hildesheim Monastery :

“Bishop Hartbert transfers the tithe in Eime with three hooves and a court to the Andreas pen , which Bodo von Homburg resigned to him in return for 240 marks paid by the pen. Hildesheim 1209 July 24. "

Eime had the rights of a patch since 1550. The place had a mayor and council, the lower jurisdiction and the right to hold a market on the Monday after Michaelmas.

There was a school in Eime for the first time in 1565. Since 1974 there has only been teaching up to elementary school. After the primary school has been closed, a free school is planned to open in the building in 2019 . There are secondary schools in Gronau, for example.

Duke Georg Wilhelm issued in 1661 the Guild of bucket brewers who brew prerogatives for many places in the area. The “Frisch Glück” mine, sunk southeast of Eime from June 1900, produced potash until 1921 . It was canceled when the production capacity was being reduced in the 1920s.

Incorporations

On March 1, 1974, the communities of Deilmissen, Deinsen and Dunsen , which had belonged to the integrated community of Eime since the 1960s, were incorporated. At the same time, Eime became part of the integrated community of Gronau (Leine) . When it was dissolved in 2016, Eime was incorporated into the Leinebergland community.

Place name

Old names of the place are 1146 in one, 1181 in Eynem, 1183 in one, 1223 villicum de Eiem, 1229 in Eym, 1234 Bertoldus de Eiem and 1316 Hildebrando de Eyme. A transformation of the place name in different stages can be observed. The outcome of the evidence seems to be one. A beginning Egin-hem, Ejin-hem must very likely be assumed behind the form Eine, so that the place name means “settlement, home of an Ago”. The personal name belongs to Gothic agis, Old High German agi, egi "horror". The name ending "em" indicates a development during the old Saxon settlement of the area around the year 600.

Coat of arms of Eime
Blazon : "In red on a silver ground a hergewendeter silver stone seat with side bolsters and high rounded back with a golden king's crown in it. A silver oak tree with silver leaves and golden acorns protrudes frombehind the seat and is visible up to the roots. "
Justification for the coat of arms: According to mediaeval reports, the “Königsstuhl” of Gudingen once stood on a grassy square on the so-called Krähenholz, an oak forest that was reclaimed when the Eime field marrow was linked . German kings, or the sendgraves on their behalf, have held court here and pronounced justice since ancient times . The importance of this ancient place of execution is revealed in the fact that the Kalenberg estates still gathered here many times, as is attested by a large number of documents up to around 1600. Based on these facts, the coat of arms of Eime was designed and chosen by the community.

religion

The inhabitants of Eime are 72% Protestant and 8% Catholic.

The Evangelical Lutheran parish of Eime includes the St. Jakobi Church in Eime as well as the chapels in Deilmissen and Dunsen. There is also a Lutheran parish in Deinsen. Both parishes belong to the Hildesheimer Land-Alfeld parish in the Hildesheim-Göttingen district of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover .

The Catholics of Eime belong partly to the parish of St. Marien (Alfeld) , partly to the parish of St. Joseph (Gronau) . Both belong to the diocese of Hildesheim . Both parishes have various branch churches, some of which are closer to Eime.

Economy and Infrastructure

The main employer is the ASWO company.

traffic

Eime is located directly on the federal highway 240 to Bodenwerder , which branches off the federal highway 3 on the edge of the municipality . The state of Lower Saxony is currently examining a planned bypass road on the west side of the town. The Hannöversche Südbahn from Hanover to Göttingen runs just east of the municipality. The nearest train station is about 3 km from the Eimer town center in Banteln .

Attractions

Jacobuskirche

The rectangular nave of the Jacobuskirche was built from rubble masonry between 1732 and 1738 . The structure replaced a much smaller previous building. The 54 m high, slender church tower designed by Conrad Wilhelm Hase was built on the originally Romanesque foundations in the lower area . The square building made of quarry stone on a fluted limestone base serves as access to the nave, which is two steps higher.

The three-aisled church interior has a barrel vault in the middle and flat ceilings on the outside. The furnishings include an altarpiece from the 16th century. a. Thematizes the Seven Sorrows of Mary . The organ came from Johann Georg Müller and was revised in 1904 by Faber & Greve.
