Cölleturm

The Cölleturm is an 8.50 m high observation tower in the Külf , a mountain range of the Leinebergland in the Hildesheim district in Lower Saxony .

Geographical location

The Cölleturm stands on the highest of the northern three hills of the Külfs. This nameless hilltop ( 234  m above sea level ) is located east-northeast of Deinsen , a part of the municipality of Eime , and southwest of the Gronau district of Banteln . The tower can be reached on forest paths.

history

The northern three hills of the Külfs were originally unforested due to cattle fattening and heavy use of wood, so it made sense to build a lookout point with an adjoining excursion restaurant there. Therefore, around 1835, the lawyer Friedrich Rautenberg from Hanover built the Cölleturm. The tower got its name later from the Bantelner Carl Cölle, who bought the tower and the surrounding land in 1878 and opened the excursion restaurant "Cöllens Höhe" at its feet.

Today the vernacular only knows the tower, inside of which a plaque gives its name. In 1952 the tower was extensively renovated by the Alfeld Transport and Improvement Association with a sum of 3,000 marks. The then owner Karl Diederichs from Banteln sold the tower to the state of Lower Saxony in 1980. In 1995, another 50,000 marks were invested in the repair of the tower, this time the money was raised by the state, the then joint municipality of Gronau , the village of Eime and the then independent municipality of Banteln.
