The federal highway 240 (abbreviation: B 240 ) begins on the B 83 between Hehlen and Bodenwerder on the Weser and leads over the Lower Saxon mountain ranges of Ith and Külf and ends on the B 3 in front of the small town of Gronau in the Hildesheim district .

In the course of improving the connection between the Holzminden district and major urban centers and long-distance traffic axes , plans are currently underway for bypasses of Eime , Marienhagen , Weenzen and Eschershausen as well as the construction of a tunnel to the Ith crossing with a bypass for Capellenhagen .
