history
Halle is a farming and craft village that was first mentioned in a document in 997. In its economic development it benefited from the favorable infrastructure at the intersection of several roads and as the center of a number of smaller villages between Ith and Vogler. During the 19th century the place had a regional center function with a post office, agency of the Braunschweigische Staatsbank, pharmacy and merchants. Industrialization did not take place in Halle. The population has decreased slightly since the middle of the 19th century and only increased again during the 20th century. The name of the place comes from the Germanic von Hall (= salt) and goes back to salt springs at Steinmühlenbrink near Halle, which were very important in the early days. Finds prove that people have settled there for 5000 years. The canton of Halle existed between 1807 and 1810 .
