The Lenne is a 23.7 km long, eastern and right tributary of the Weser in the Lower Saxony district of Holzminden ( Germany ). It flows in the Weserbergland and is a 3rd order river .

course

The Lenne rises on the northern edge of the Holzberg ridge . Its source lies in a narrow strip of forest at about 306  m above sea level. NHN in the municipality of Wangelnstedt , southwest above the district of Linnenkamp in Wolpers Grund .

The Lenne flows mainly in a north-westerly direction. Initially it runs northeast through Linnenkamp and then on and on through Wangelnstedt, where it passes the low mountain range Elfas (max.  409.6  m ) to the west. Then it turns to the north and flows east past the core of the municipality of Lenne and its district Linnenplan, after which the Vorwohle (Flötebach) brook flows from the east . Meanwhile, the Lenne runs northeast of the Homburgwald low mountain range (max.  406.1  m ). After crossing the Eschershausen district of Wickensen to the south , it continues past the Homburgwald, through the core town of Eschershausen and through the Eschershausen district of Scharfoldendorf .

After that, the Lenne flows between the low mountain ranges of Ith (max.  439  m ; somewhat distant) in the north-east and Vogler (max.  460.4  m ) in the south-west. The river runs through the Lüerdissen district of Oelkassen and through the core of the Kirchbrak community . Then it passes the village of Linse , a district of Bodenwerder , where the Spüligbach flows into its largest tributary.

After flowing through the Braunschweigische Pforte , the Lenne flows into the north-northwest edge of the Vogler between the Eckberg ( 203.6  m ; with the Bismarck tower ) in the north and the Königszinne ( 255  m ; with the Königszinne lookout tower ) in the south at the Bodenwerder hamlet of Thran in the south approaching Weser . The Lenne has an average discharge of around 1.34 m³ / s at its mouth . The main town of Bodenwerder lies to the west of the mouth, which is about 72  m above sea level.

Lenne estuary

The valley cut at the mouth of the Lenne is called the Braunschweigische Pforte or Porta Brunswiga ; The breakthrough valley created by the Lenne opens a gate from the former Hanoverian Bodenwerder to the former Duchy of Braunschweig .

The sand washed into the Weser by the Lenne used to form a ford , so that a trade route was created there very early. The Kemnade monastery was therefore founded on the opposite side of the Lenne estuary as early as 960 .

Protected areas

The Lenne is designated as a FFH area and nature reserve Lenne from Wangelnstedt and flows through parts of the EU bird sanctuary Sollingvorland.
