history
Wickensen was first mentioned in a document in the early 16th century and was created as a Vorwerk for the Homburg . The Homburg has been the seat of an office of the Guelphs since the nobles of Homburg died out . From there, the seat was moved to Wickensen in 1535. The Welf Heinrich II had a new office building built in 1542, for which some components of the Homburg were used. Vollrad von Mansfeld caused severe damage to the building in 1552, which was later repaired. The Wickensen office was relocated to the center of Eschershausen in the 19th century. In 1973 the Eschershausen office was dissolved and responsibilities shifted to the district town of Holzminden.
