Full wheel from Mansfeld
Vollrad V. von Mansfeld zu Hinter-Ort (also: Volrath, Volradt, Volrad) (* March 11, 1520 , † December 30, 1578 in Peterstal near Strasbourg ) was a mercenary leader from the house of the Counts of Mansfeld .
His parents were Albrecht VII von Mansfeld zu Hinter-Ort (* 1485; † March 5, 1560) and Countess Anna von Honstein-Klettenberg . Even his father was a close friend of the reformer Martin Luther , who came from the county of Mansfeld , and an ardent supporter of the Reformation movement.
In 1544/45 he was in France. In November 1551 he camped in Hamburg and equipped two warships.
In May 1552 he was commissioned by Duke Franz I of Saxony-Lauenburg to put the Ratzeburg cathedral chapter under pressure. Mansfeld had the Ratzeburg Cathedral plundered and stayed for two months; for a payment of 4,000 thalers he did not burn the cathedral down.
In the same year in which there was a feud between the Protestant Margrave Albrecht of Brandenburg and the Catholic Duke Heinrich the Younger of Braunschweig , Vollrad destroyed Heinrich's Lichtenberg Castle near Salzgitter with his mercenaries and mortars .
He conquered and occupied Liebenburg Castle and destroyed the castle and farm buildings of the Kirchberg manor (district of Seesen ). In 1553 he burned down the neighboring Wildemann and destroyed the shaft of the "Wildemanns Fundgrube".
