Albrecht VII of Mansfeld

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Albrecht VII. (Also III. And IV.), Count von Mansfeld-Hinterort (born June 18, 1480 in Leipzig , † March 4, 1560 in Neue Hütte in Leutenberg ) was a German nobleman from the house of the Counts of Mansfeld , who was significant because of his advocacy for the Reformation beyond the county of Mansfeld.

Life

In 1501 he received the castle in Mansfeld-Hinterort, the Oberamt Eisleben , the Unteramt Schraplau , the Unteramt Mansfeld and Rammelburg , in 1525 he became Lord of Allstedt , 1527 Lord of Rothenburg , 1537 Lord of the Office Sittichenbach .

He married Countess Anna von Honstein-Klettenberg (1490–1559), daughter of Count Ernst IV. Von Honstein zu Lohra and Klettenberg (1440–1508) and Felicitas von Beichlingen (1468–1500).

In 1511 he had the Neustadt Eisleben built and planned it for the settlement of miners from other areas of Germany. In 1514 he initiated the construction of the Sankt-Annen-Kirche and the Augustinian monastery of St. Anna (Eisleben) , which Martin Luther visited in 1516.

In 1525 he took part in the battle of Frankenhausen against the farmers. In 1530 he was a signatory to the Confessio Augustana in Augsburg .

In January 1546, Luther probably stayed in his house, the Eisfelder Stadtpalais (Markt 56), which is now the “Graf von Mansfeld” hotel. Luther traveled to his hometown to settle the inheritance disputes of the 22 children of Count Ernst II von Mansfeld-Vorderort, who died in 1531. He no longer took part in the final negotiations on February 17th, weakened by the winter trip and suffering from angina pectoris ; however, the negotiations ended successfully. The reformer died on February 18th - in the presence of Count Albrecht VII and his wife Anna.

Because of its commitment to the Reformation imposed Emperor Charles V on May 6, 1547 upon him the imperial ban . At the Battle of Drakenburg on May 23, 1547, he led the Armed Forces of the Schmalkaldic League with 26 troops (around 6,500 men) of infantry and up to 1,400 horsemen and 24 guns . He defeated the imperial army under Duke Erich II of Calenberg by tactics . The imperial ban was lifted again in 1552.

He was buried on March 16, 1560 in the town church of Mansfeld .
