Schraplau is a town in the Saalekreis , Saxony-Anhalt (Germany).
geography
Schraplau is located between Halle (Saale) and Lutherstadt Eisleben in the Weida valley . The city belongs to the community of Weida-Land , which has its administrative seat in the community of Nemsdorf-Göhrendorf .
Neighboring communities are Lake Mansfelder Land in the north and east. Within the Verbandsgemeinde : Obhausen in the south and Farnstädt in the west.
history
- In a register of the tithe of the monastery of Hersfeld ( Hersfelder tithe list ) created between 881 and 899, Schraplau is mentioned in a document as a " tithing place Scrabanloch in Friesenfeld ". Schraplau Castle is located in the city .
- Around 1254, the Johanniskirche in Schraplau owned 2.5 Hufen fields in what is now the Dresewitz desert .

6% of the population are Protestant, 2% Catholic. The Evangelical-Lutheran parish Schraplau with its church St. Johannes belongs to the rectory of Querfurt -Nord (seat: Eisleben- Osterhausen ) in the parish of Merseburg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany . The few Catholics are assigned to the parish of St. Bruno , based in Querfurt in the diocese of Magdeburg , whose next branch church is St. Anna in Röblingen am See .

The coat of arms was approved by the district on November 6, 2012.
Blazon : “In silver on a green shield foot in front a Roman soldier with red tunic , pteruges , boots and helmet with plume, in his right hand holding the severed bearded head of John the Baptist by his black hair, in his left a raised sword with a silver blade and golden handle with pommel and quillons, behind a grooved and tinned, pointed and kneaded red tower with three silver breakthroughs (2: 1). "
The colors of the city are based on the coat of arms colors red - white - green.
The city led the coat of arms in customary law without authorization until it was drawn in heraldically correct manner by the municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch and included in the approval process. Schraplau has this motif in the picture seal today.

On November 10, 2012, the flag, which was also designed by the heraldist Mantzsch, was presented to the public by a festive flag consecration on the market square of Schraplau on the occasion of a city festival.

There is a lime works in the village , in which limestone from the neighboring open-cast mine is extracted.
With the opening of the Röblingen am See – Vitzenburg railway , Schraplau had access to the German railway network from 1904. Since passenger traffic was discontinued at the end of 2003, there has only been freight traffic to and from Röblingen on this route .
