history
The city emerged on January 1, 2011 from the amalgamation of the cities of Löbejün and Wettin and the communities of Brachwitz , Döblitz , Domnitz , Gimritz , Nauendorf , Neutz-Lettewitz , Plötz and Rothenburg , which had previously been combined in the Saalkreis Nord administrative community.
The merger took place against the background of the municipal reform in Saxony-Anhalt. After the voluntary phase set by the state government did not lead to the formation of a unified municipality , the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt decided on June 18, 2010 with the votes of the government coalition on a legal reorganization (GemNeuglG SK).
Originally the name of the newly formed town was "Löbejün-Wettin". The constituent meeting of the city council set the city name "Wettin-Löbejün", which has been in effect since April 7, 2011.

coat of arms
The coat of arms was approved on June 11, 2012 by the district administrator of the Saalekreis. Since the text of the blazon on the coat of arms was incorrectly copied several times (quartered instead of quartered, Stockacker instead of stock anchor), the process of issuing the coat of arms was repeated. The letter of coat of arms submitted later dates from November 9, 2012.
Blazon : “Shield quartered; 1: in red a silver castle with a battlement wall and an open golden gate, with a low tinned central tower with black window opening between two pointed tinned side towers with three (1: 2) black window openings; 2: a red stick anchor in silver; 3: a green plow in silver; 4: two diagonally crossed silver keys in green, the beards turning outwards. "
The new town of Wettin-Löbejün proposed to combine the coat of arms symbolism based on the former eponymous city coat of arms with reference to the former rural communities. Furthermore, the location near the hall should be symbolically included in the coat of arms. The heraldic implementation was done by placing the Wettin coat of arms slightly changed in field 1 of a squared shield; in field 4 came the crossed keys from the Löbejun coat of arms, which refer to the patron saint of the Petrikirche. It should be noted that the roses in the local coat of arms of Löbejün have no meaning whatsoever. They were only meant to fill the open spaces. In addition, two of the roses were heraldically wrong (red) tinged, so that their inclusion would not be approved. In view of its close proximity to the Saale, which historically was not only a water supplier but also a transport route for ships, field 2 has a stick anchor . This differs from the flunk anchor by the upper cross bar, which is issued on the side and guarantees that the anchor flunke hooks into the ground. The coat of arms was developed by the municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch .
flag
The flag is green and white (1: 1) striped (horizontal shape: stripes running horizontally, lengthways shape: stripes running vertically) and centered with the city coat of arms.
traffic
Rail transport
Wettin-Löbejün lies with the Nauendorf (Saalkr) and Domnitz (Saalkr) stops on the Halle – Vienenburg railway line . The Nauendorf – Gerlebogk railway line with the former stops Nauendorf (Saalkr) Nord , Domnitz (Saalkr) Kautzenberg , Löbejün (Saalkr) and Gottgau has been closed.
Major roads
The federal motorway 14 , which leads from Dresden via Leipzig and Halle to Magdeburg , and which will be extended to Schwerin , also runs through the urban area, but only the Löbejün junction is located in it. The route in the urban area was released in two stages, between the Löbejün and Könnern branches in the north in 1996 and between Löbejün and Halle-Peißen in the east in 2000. Older was Bundesstraße 6, which ran parallel to the federal motorway, and the towns of Domnitz and Dornitz crossed. After the approval of Autobahn 14, it was downgraded to State Road 50. The Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig banned further construction of the federal motorway 143 , which currently only goes as far as Bennstedt and was planned as a western bypass for Halle, on January 17, 2007.
