Könnern (until 1911 Cönnern ) is a small town in the Salzlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt .
geography
The Saale flows past the western outskirts. This section of the river is part of the Lower Saale Valley Nature Park . The Fuhne flows through the east of the town of Könnern .

Incorporation, development of the urban area
The incorporation according to Könnern took place in 1997 (Trebnitz), 2003 (three municipalities), 2005 (three municipalities) and 2010 (four municipalities).
Incorporation into the current districts (formerly independent communities) took place in 1950 (eleven communities), 1957 (Kustrena) and 1961 (Piesdorf). In 1993 a district was reclassified.

history
The city of Könnern belonged as a media city to the Archbishopric of Magdeburg , from 1680 the Brandenburg-Prussian Duchy of Magdeburg , and was located in the Saalkreis , whose borders were changed in 1816 with the establishment of the Province of Saxony . During the French occupation (1807 to 1813), Könnern was incorporated into the Kingdom of Westphalia and assigned to the Halle district in the Saale department. The city was the capital of the canton of Cönnern . From 1952 to 2007 Könnern was part of the Bernburg district . A bent, 45.2 gram golden Eidring was found in 2009 in the area of the biogas plant.
The district of Trebnitz was first mentioned in 961 when Margrave Gero had a castle built here. The castle was rebuilt as a moated castle after its destruction in the Thirty Years War . The castle, which was used by the local agricultural production cooperative in the second half of the 20th century , was purchased by Uwe Meenen for 100,000 DM in 2001 ; he wanted to turn the castle into a so-called “national training center”; Steffen Hupka was the operator . After internal disputes and financial problems, the project was abandoned. In 2010 the well-preserved castle with 2,000 square meters of living space was acquired by the NPD politicians Thomas Wulff and Axel Schunk for 80,000 euros at an auction by the Bernburg District Court .

The coat of arms refers to an image that can be verified as early as 1364. Later the saint became a cavalier with a sword on his side, then a knight. The coat of arms was designed in 1993 by the Magdeburg local heraldist Jörg Mantzsch based on a template by Otto Hupp and included in the approval process.

- Graves in the cemeteries of the Belleben, Golbitz and Piesdorf districts of eight concentration camp prisoners who were murdered by SS men on a death march from the Langenstein-Zwieberge concentration camp , a satellite camp of the Buchenwald concentration camp , towards Koethen in April 1945

Transport links
Run through the place u. a. the national roads L50 and L85. Könnern also has a connection to the A 14 from Halle (Saale) to Magdeburg .
The existing rail infrastructure on the Halle – Halberstadt railway line has been renewed in recent years. The regional express trains Halle – Halberstadt (–Goslar) stop every hour at the Könnern train station as a public transport hub .
The Könnern – Baalberge railway connects Könnern with the district town of Bernburg . This route is served by Abellio Rail Mitteldeutschland's Halle – Bernburg regional railways, with stops at all on-route stations. At this distance, the lying stops Trebitz (b Könnern) and Bebitz (both districts by experts) that are no longer served since 9 December 2018th
There is also an airport for small planes Halle-Oppin nearby and the intercontinental airport Leipzig-Halle can be reached in half an hour.
