Geographical location

Nelbe is about 3 km west of Könnern on the west bank of the lower Saale . The place belongs to the nature reserve Nelbeer Grund and Georgsburg .

history

At the crossing of the Saale in the direction of Könnern, Nelbe was probably founded as a Sorbian fishing village. The place was first mentioned in documents as "Nebili" in 874. It belonged to the imperial "Grafschaft Alsleben ", which came to the Archdiocese of Magdeburg after the death of the last Count of Alsleben in 1128 . It was pledged to Karl von Krosigk in 1438 by the Archbishop of Magdeburg, Günther II von Schwarzburg . In 1479, the von Krosigk family was enfeoffed with the county of Alsleben by the Archbishop of Magdeburg, Ernst von Magdeburg, which also resulted in the von Krosigk family lordship . Documents of the noble family prove that Nelbe was a subject village of the Gnölbzig manor , in which a branch of the von Krosigk family was resident from the beginning of the 15th century to 1636. When an inheritance was divided in 1664, Heinrich von Krosigk received the town and the old Alsleben castle as well as the surrounding villages of Piesdorf , Strenz, Naundorf and Gnölbzig in addition to Nelbe . When the Archbishopric of Magdeburg fell to Brandenburg-Prussia in 1680, the Electors of Brandenburg (from 1701 kings in / of Prussia) became the new sovereigns of the area now known as the “ Duchy of Magdeburg ”. Nelbe belonged to the hall circle . In August 1755, the chamber president Christoph Heinrich von Wedel from Braunsforth in Pomerania bought the manors Gnölbzig and Piesdorf, as well as the towns of Gnölbzig, Nelbe, Strenz and Naundorf. At that time Nelbe belonged to the Piesdorf manor.

With the Peace of Tilsit in 1807 Nelbe was incorporated into the Kingdom of Westphalia and assigned to the Halle district in the Saale department. The place belonged to the canton Alsleben . After Napoleon's defeat and the end of the Kingdom of Westphalia, Napoleon's allied opponents liberated the Saalkreis in early October 1813. In the course of the political reorganization after the Congress of Vienna in 1815, Nelbe was attached to the Merseburg administrative district of the Prussian province of Saxony in 1816 and assigned to the Mansfeld Lake District . In 1929 the bridge over the Saale was opened between Nelbe and Georgsburg, which meant that the ferry service was discontinued.

With the first district reform in the GDR, Nelbe was incorporated into the Eisleben district. In this context it was incorporated into Gnölbzig on July 1, 1950 . As a district of Gnölbzig, the second district reform in the GDR in 1952 made it part of the Bernburg district in the Halle district , which became the Bernburg district in 1990 and was added to the Salzlandkreis in 2007. On January 2, 1993, through reclassification, Nelbe became a district of the town of Könnern.
