history

Golbitz, formerly also called "Golwitz", is a Slavic foundation from the years 600 to 800. Like Garsena, the Slavic agricultural settlement is a clustered village . Golbitz and Garsena were in Saalkreis of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg . They belonged to the office of Rothenburg . When the Archbishopric of Magdeburg fell to Brandenburg-Prussia in 1680, the Electors of Brandenburg (from 1701 kings in / of Prussia) became the new sovereigns of the area now known as the “ Duchy of Magdeburg ”. In the 17th century, copper slate was mined in Golbitz , which was smelted in neighboring Rothenburg . As a result, the place became a mining site with a lively industry. Mining had to be stopped around 1750 because the water could not cope with the penetration of the shafts. Today numerous heaps around the place testify to this time.

With the peace of Tilsit , Golbitz and Garsena were incorporated into the Kingdom of Westphalia in 1807 and assigned to the Halle district in the Saale department. Both places belonged to the canton of Cönnern . After Napoleon's defeat and the end of the Kingdom of Westphalia, Napoleon's allied opponents liberated the Saalkreis in early October 1813. During the political reorganization after the Congress of Vienna in 1815, Golbitz and Garsena were attached to the Merseburg administrative district of the Prussian province of Saxony in 1816 and assigned to the Saalkreis.

With the first district reform in the GDR, Garsena was incorporated into Golbitz on July 1, 1950. Since January 1st, 2003 Golbitz has been part of the town of Könnern with the districts of Golbitz and Garsena.
