Merseburg administrative district
The administrative region of Merseburg existed from 1815 to 1944 and from 1945 to 1947 in the Prussian province of Saxony and then in the state of Saxony-Anhalt of the Soviet occupation zone .
Along with Magdeburg and Erfurt, it was one of the three administrative districts that were formed in 1815 when the Prussian province of Saxony was founded. Its borders were changed several times in the course of history and existed until the province of Saxony was divided up on July 1, 1944. The Prussian province of Halle-Merseburg took its place .
This was then replaced in the course of the formation of the state of Saxony-Anhalt (1945-47) again by the administrative district of Merseburg, which was re-established on July 23, 1945, in addition to the administrative districts of Dessau for the former Free State of Anhalt and Magdeburg for the former Prussian province of the same name. During the reform of the state administration, these districts were dissolved on June 30, 1947. In connection with the administrative reform of 1952 , the former district area came to the Halle district of the GDR .
