Hartmann von Witzleben

Hartmann Erasmus von Witzleben (born December 9, 1805 in Weißenfels , † October 12, 1878 in Merseburg ) was a Prussian civil servant. Most recently he was President of the Province of Saxony .

origin

He came from the noble family von Witzleben and was the sixth child of Georg Hartmann von Witzleben and Wilhelmine Freiin von Seckendorff (1769-1812).

Life

Hartmann Erasmus von Witzleben attended the Roßleben monastery school as a high school student . He remained lifelong connected to the school, of which his family was hereditary administrator, and later promoted it in his official functions. He studied law and political science in Halle an der Saale and in Göttingen . Since 1832 he was a member of the Corps Saxonia Halle .

He then entered the Prussian judicial and civil service as an ausculator at the city court in Berlin . From 1830 he was a trainee lawyer with the government in Merseburg . He then worked for the government in Minden and from 1835 in the Prussian Ministry of Finance. In 1837, von Witzleben joined the government in Potsdam with the rank of government councilor . Between 1838 and 1840 he was the district administrator of the Niederbarnim district . From 1840 he was lecturing councilor to Prince Wilhelm of Prussia . Since 1841 he was also the hereditary administrator of the Roßleben monastery school .

In 1844 he became regional president in Liegnitz and in 1848 in Merseburg. During the revolution of 1848/49 he was active in the conservative and loyal to the king sense. Between 1849 and 1852 he was a member of the first chamber of the Prussian state parliament and belonged there to the Alvensleben faction.

From 1850 to 1872 Witzleben was President of the Province of Saxony . At the same time he was district president in Magdeburg . In 1861 he became a real Go Council with the title of excellence appointed. In 1864 he was made capitular and in 1869 cathedral dean of Magdeburg Cathedral . Witzleben has worked in Magdeburg in a variety of ways to stabilize conservatism, including by promoting relevant associations and religious associations. Because of his opposition to the district regulation bill, he was put up for disposal in 1872. At the same time he was appointed a member of the Prussian manor house .
