Heinrich Waentig

Heinrich Eugen Waentig (born March 21, 1870 in Zwickau , † December 22, 1943 in Baden-Baden ) was a German economist and politician ( SPD ).

Waentig was the son of the Saxon ministerial official Karl Heinrich Wäntig . He studied from 1888 to 1893 in Munich , Berlin , Leipzig and Vienna and received his doctorate in Leipzig. He then traveled to the USA and East Asia.

In 1895 he qualified as a private lecturer at the Philipps University of Marburg and was appointed associate professor the following year, and in 1899 full professor at the University of Greifswald . In 1902 he moved to the University of Münster and in 1904 to Halle . From 1909 to 1913 he taught economics and finance at the Imperial University of Tokyo . a. Chosen because he could teach in English.

In 1913 he was recalled from Japan by the Prussian minister of culture and returned (until 1933) to his chair at the University of Halle. From 1921 to 1928 he was a member of the Prussian Landtag for the SPD , in 1927 he was appointed Upper President of the Province of Saxony and in March 1930 he was appointed Prussian Minister of the Interior. He held this office until October 21, 1930, and was succeeded by Carl Severing .

In 1935 he lived in Dahlem , Schweinfurthstrasse 43/7 in Berlin.
