Georg Hartmann von Witzleben

Georg Hartmann von Witzleben (born September 23, 1766 in Wohlmirstedt , † September 15, 1841 in Roßleben ) was a Prussian Privy Councilor, hereditary administrator of the Roßleben monastery school and until 1803 owner of the Blue Court in Wohlmirstedt.

He came from the noble family von Witzleben and was the sixth child of Friedrich Wilhelm von Witzleben (1714–1791). Witzleben received his doctorate as Dr. jur. and Dr. phil.

In 1797 he married Wilhelmine Freiin von Seckendorff (1769–1812) in Weißenfels. After her death on New Year's Eve in 1818, he went to Oberwiederstedt in 1820 with Caroline von Witzleben (1787-1860), the daughter of Friedrich Ludwig von Witzleben, his second marriage. The later Chief President Hartmann von Witzleben emerged from the first marriage .

From 1800 to 1801 he worked as the secret finance councilor at the Dresden court, where he met the poet Novalis , with whom he befriended and whose death he was very shocked the following year. Novalis' father ensured that Georg Hartmann von Witzleben was appointed as his assistant as saline director in 1801 in Dürrenberg .

After his death there were disputes within the family over the office of hereditary administrator.
