The St. Mauritius Church in Gnölbzig

Gnölbzig is a district of the city of Alsleben (Saale) in the extreme south of the Salzlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt , about 30 kilometers northwest of Halle (Saale) .

geography

The village is located on the western bank of the Saale , about five kilometers southeast of Alsleben, at an altitude of about 85 meters. Neighboring towns are Könnern in the east, Trebnitz in the north, Strenznaundorf in the west and Nelbe in the south. Gnölbzig is located in the Lower Saale Valley Nature Park . The Severin nature reserve between the town of Alsleben (Saale), Gnölbzig district and the town of Könnern, Trebnitz district, is of particular importance . It is the only remnant of alluvial forest in the south of the Salzlandkreis. The Salzbach flows into the Saale to the northwest of Gnölbzig.

An oxbow river of the Saale borders directly on the village, which was cut off when the river was straightened in 1933.

history

Presumably the village originated as an originally Slavic foundation. It is mentioned for the first time in a document from Archbishop Konrad I of Magdeburg dated January 6, 1135, in which he confirms a donation to the Neuwerk monastery , which u. a. consists of two hooves and two yards in "Glinibss". The spelling of the place name varied over the centuries: "Glinibs", "Gnepltzk", "Gnelbs", "Gnölbs", "Gnölbzig".

In 1393, the von Krosigk family came into the possession of the village, which was held by the Archbishopric of Magdeburg . From the beginning of the 15th century until 1636, at the time of Christoph von Krosigk , the Gnölbziger family had its own line. In 1664 Heinrich von Krosigk received the town and the old castle Alsleben as well as the surrounding villages of Piesdorf, Strenz, Naundorf , Gnölbzig and Nelbe as part of an inheritance division . In August 1755 from Braunsforth in bought Pomerania originating Chamber President Christoph Heinrich von Wedel , the manors Piesdorf and Gnölbzig. The Vorwerk Gnölbzig mentioned in 1705/12 appears in the 18th century as a manor, but was co-administered from Piesdorf. At this time (since 1680) Gnölbzig belonged to the Brandenburg-Prussian Duchy of Magdeburg ( Saalkreis ) and is described as follows:

"Gnölbs, village in the Saalcreise" [...] "Gnölbzig, Gnölbs, Ritterguth, ... village and branch church. ... the village has 24 fireplaces and a tavern that can draw beer if it wants. Agriculture is good; There also good pasture and cattle-breeding, and some fishermen live there, who have their enclosures in the hall. The church is a branch of Nelbe, called zu S. Moritz, and has 9 acres of church fields. … The village of Gnölbzig, with its upper and lower courts, belongs to the manor estate, so there are also some people from the Cabelle; but the brawners and cossats have to do the tensioning and manual services to the Ritterguthe Pießdorf. "

In 1795/96 the St. Mauritius Church was built as a simple quarry stone building (inscription above the church door in 1795). The neo-Gothic tower and windows followed at the end of the 19th century.

Between 1807 and 1813 Gnölbzig belonged to the Kingdom of Westphalia ( Canton Alsleben in the Saale department with its seat in Halberstadt). As a result of the Congress of Vienna , the part of the Saalkreis west of the Saale (Alsleben, Belleben, Haus Zeitz, Piesdorf, Strenznaundorf, Gnölbzig, Nelbe, Zellwitz, Zickeritz and Brucke) was incorporated into the newly created Mansfeld Seekreis with the district administration in Eisleben . This belonged to the Prussian province of Saxony in the administrative district of Merseburg . It stayed that way until 1952.

On January 16, 1922, the municipal council decided unanimously to apply for the dissolution of the manor district . Reason: 1. There is only one common fund and one common budget; 2. The members of the state health insurance fund of the manor district are listed in the municipal health insurance fund; 3. The manor district does not keep a register of persons and does not issue food cards. After clarifying various issues and resolving differences of opinion, the Prussian State Ministry officially approved this on December 17, 1924 . At that time, the Gnölbzig community had an area of approx. 400 hectares and 269 inhabitants. The Gnölbzig manor district had an area of 264.25 hectares and 73 inhabitants.

With a total investment of 10,000 Reichsmarks , Gnölbzig was connected to the existing water supply of the manor in 1930. In 1934 it was connected to the Konnern telephone network.

On July 1, 1950, Nelbe was incorporated. In 1954, far-reaching plans were developed on behalf of the SED to develop Gnölbzig and the district of Nelbe into a model village. There should be extensive construction work for agriculture, in particular stables for animal breeding and an expansion of the associated LPG buildings. In addition, a new town center was planned, in which a cultural center with a hall for 400–500 people, a central school, an apprenticeship home for around 60 apprentices and an adjoining vocational school, a mother's advice center, a day-care center and shopping facilities were to be created. The drafts provided for a large gardening facility and an associated canning factory for the district of Nelbe. These plans have never been implemented. They would have completely changed the urban face of the village.

On January 2, 1993 Gnölbzig lost its communal independence and was incorporated into the city of Alsleben (Saale) . The district of Nelbe was reclassified to Könnern .

Transport and infrastructure

To the south of the village, the Halle – Halberstadt railway line crosses the Saale.

In May 1869 negotiations begin on the acquisition of land for the construction of the section from Sandersleben to Cönnern of the Aschersleben-Halle Railway, which is to be built by the Magdeburg-Halberstädter Railway Company . On the part of the congregation, the manor owner Andreas Goeltzer, the Dorfschulze Herz and the parish are the main negotiating partners. By September 1871, purchase agreements were concluded with a total of 21 owners.

In January 1899, the Prussian Minister of Public Works wrote a letter to the Royal Railway Directorate in Magdeburg approving the establishment of a stop at Gnölbzig (km 32.3 on the Cönnern-Belleben line). The prerequisites are: 1. Free handing over of the land, 2. Payment of a grant of 10,000 M and 3. Conclusion of contracts with interested parties for the fortification and subsequent maintenance of the station feeder. This was preceded in March 1898 by a joint petition by the communities Gnölbzig, Nelbe, Strenz-Naundorf, Zellwitz and Zickeritz for a stop or a stop in Gnölbziger Flur. This was intended to improve the economic connection between these villages and the eastern bank of the Saale, since at that time only ferries were used to transport people and goods across the river and these had to be stopped in the event of flooding. The next road bridges over the Saale were in Halle and Bernburg .

The railway stop between Nelbe and Gnölbzig was maintained until May 24, 1998.

The next road bridge over the river has been located south of the railway overpass between Nelbe and Könnern since 1929. In addition to the road to Nelbe, there are also road connections to Alsleben and Strenznaundorf. The first expansion of the road from Alsleben via Gnölbzig to Nelbe took place around 1883.
