The Könnern station is the station of the town of Könnern in the Salzlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt . It is a connecting station with two branching lines. The station was opened in 1871.

location

The Könnern train station is located on the 28.5 kilometer of the Halle – Vienenburg line . It is also the starting point for a route to Baalberge and one to Rothenburg .

It is located on the northeastern edge of the city and is therefore around 750 meters from the town center. The streets Am Güterbahnhof and Am Bahnhof are immediately adjacent . Landstrasse 144, also Köthener Strasse , is crossed over a level crossing .

In the direction of Halle, the next station is Domnitz, about six kilometers away. In the direction of Vienenburg this is the Belleben stop (distance 10 km) and in the direction of Baalberge the Trebitz stop (distance 4 km). The route to Rothenburg, which is only used for freight traffic, is around five kilometers long.

history

On October 15, 1871, the station on the route to Aschersleben was opened. Könnern was temporarily the terminus . First a large reception building was built and on the opposite side of the station a goods shed and a loading lane with head and side ramps. On the opening day, celebrations took place early in the morning. At 5:15 a.m., the first train arrived at Könnern station in the presence of many citizens. After the train arrived again at 1 p.m., the party continued in the station restaurant.

After the route to Halle was completed, the number of travelers increased significantly. Local industry and agriculture also used the railroad as a means of transport for freight transport. It is thanks to her that further companies have been added. In freight transport, the incoming freight consisted mainly of animals, grain, lignite, briquettes and sugar. Outbound freight included stones, cement, engineering products and steam boilers. The express goods handling was behind the reception building. With the commissioning of the line to Baalberge , which then continues to Bernburg, the sales volume increased again. In 1916 the line to Rothenburg was added. This officially begins in the north of the station, namely in the "Könnern Anschlussbf", which after 1944 was also called "Könnern Nord" at times.

Until October 14, 1911, the official spelling of the city was "Cönnern". Then the name was changed to "Könnern".

With the further increase in freight traffic, there were also larger Raniger activities. Since there was no drainage mountain , the shunting movements could only be carried out in push mode. Due to the closing times of the barriers, there were traffic obstructions on Köthenschen Straße. For this reason, the Royal Railway Directorate in Magdeburg designed an underpass. However, the Magistrate of the city of Könnern rejected this for cost reasons.

After the founding of the Deutsche Reichsbahn several suggestions for improving the operational procedures arose. Among other things, it was planned to build a turntable with a diameter of 16 meters and an extinguishing pit . However, both projects were never realized.

Almost all goods traffic was carried out on the loading road, which was lengthened in 1895, and the head and side ramp in front of the goods shed. A siding branched off in the middle of the street, which was served by state railroad locomotives. A malt factory has had a siding since it opened in 1872. This existed until the early 1990s. A Deutz locomotive was used there in the 1980s . It was delivered to the Malzfabrik Könnern on November 21, 1928 and is now privately owned.

From 1850 to 1928 there was a sugar factory on the route to Rothenburg. It received a siding and was served by state railroad locomotives. The connection still exists, but is unused. In 1991 a concentrate mixer was built at this point.

After the Second World War , the second track on the line between Halle and Aschersleben was dismantled as a reparation payment to the Soviet Union . The single track had no major influence on the shunting operations in Könnern, as the volume of goods was already declining.

In 1999 extensive renovation work was carried out in the station. The two platforms with three platform tracks were renewed. Accessibility was created with two elevators . All company facilities were already closed at that time. It is therefore an unoccupied office. Shunting work is still taking place in freight transport. However, loading or unloading is no longer carried out in the Könnern station.

Shunting operation

Locomotives were probably never stationed in Konnern. Machines from Bernburg were used, which came to Könnern twice a day with a local freight train. Locomotives from Güsten or Aschersleben were also used at times . After 1991 the situation changed. The Bernburg depot had already been closed. The Bw Güsten was also about to close. Vehicles from Halle were used for the maneuvering work, which has now become significantly less.

Investments

The reception building is a listed building .

The Seitenbahnsteig one is 140 meters long. The middle platform 2/3 has a length of 140 meters for track 2 and 166 meters for track 3. The height of all platforms is 76 centimeters.
