The Goslar station is the largest passenger station of the district town of Goslar . The railway lines Vienenburg - Oker - Goslar , Hildesheim - Grauhof - Goslar and Seesen - Langelsheim - Goslar meet here . It has five platform tracks, which are located on a house platform and two central platforms , and belongs to station category  3. In the station building there is a Deutsche Bahn travel center and various shops. A sign in a fractured font welcomes visitors to the imperial city on the house platform .

history

The station was built as the end point of the line from Vienenburg that was opened in 1866 . After the opening of the railway lines to Langelsheim and Grauhof in 1883, the significance of the previously insignificant station grew. In 1893 the first locomotive station and a repair shop were built . For securing the movement of trains in 1905 two headed mechanical interlocking systems in operation, the guard interlocking Go ( G oslar O st), and the command signal box Gwf ( G oslar W est F ahrdienstleiter). With the signal box Gr there was also a shunting signal box , which was closed in 1972. In 2001 the signal box was demolished.

From 1912 a fourth connection was added with the Oker - Bad Harzburg line branching off from the line to Vienenburg . In addition to the route via Vienenburg, this created another connection to Halberstadt via Bad Harzburg and Wernigerode . Along with the construction of this route, the treatment facilities were relocated and expanded; The later Bahnbetriebswerk (Bw) Goslar emerged from them.

After the Second World War, the connections to the Soviet occupation zone were interrupted, which meant that part of the through traffic in Goslar was eliminated.

In the early 1970s, the change in traction found its way into the Vorharz region. Maintenance in the Bw was given up in 1972, and in 1976 the scheduled service of steam locomotives in the Hanover Federal Railway Directorate ended . The last steam locomotive was used by the N 6178 local train from Braunschweig Hauptbahnhof to Goslar. Until 1984 the Deutsche Bundesbahn used the area of ​​the depot to park rail buses . The facility was demolished in 2010.

In addition to the local trains, Goslar was also a stop for express trains for a long time . Up to the end of the Second World War there were direct connections to Berlin , Dresden , Leipzig , Cologne , Hanover , Bremen and Aachen, among others . Goslar was also the western terminus of the passenger trains from Halberstadt via Wernigerode and Bad Harzburg. After 1945, the direct connections to the Soviet occupation zone ceased, the trains only went to Bad Harzburg or towards Braunschweig. From 1984 to 1995 there was an IC connection in Goslar on Fridays and Sundays to and from Cologne or Düsseldorf . This train connection was intended as a Bundeswehr InterCity especially for the Bundeswehr soldiers at the Goslar Air Base. Since 1996 there has been a direct connection to Wernigerode, Halberstadt and Halle (Saale) with the closure of the northern Harz gap .

DB Regio , erixx and Abellio trains stop at Goslar station in the 2019 timetable . Since the timetable change on December 13, 2015, only diesel railcars of the 622 , 640 and 648 series have been used . From Friday to Sunday, since the timetable change on December 14, 2014, the Harz-Berlin-Express has a free connection to Potsdam and Berlin .
