The Könnern – Baalberge railway is a single-track, non-electrified branch line in Saxony-Anhalt .

history

At the beginning of the 1880s, the Prussian State Railroad began preparatory work for a railway line from Könnern to Baalberge (Bernburg). Since the route had to cross the Prussian-Anhalt state border, a corresponding state treaty was concluded between the two countries in March 1883.

Reception building in Baalberge (2015)

A first plan was presented by the Prussian State Railways in autumn 1883, but the line was not opened until November 1, 1889 by the Prussian State Railways. The "Wilhelm" lignite mine near Lebendorf played a decisive role in the route, as it supported the construction of the railway with 27,000 marks. The 11.3 km long route led via Bebitz, where there was a connection to the “ Lebendorfer Kohlenbahn ”. The town of Alsleben (Saale) , which had hoped for a railway connection, was not connected until 1905/08 with the Bebitz – Alsleben railway line , which partly used the route of the Lebendorfer coal railway.

From December 2005 to December 2018, passenger transport was operated by Transdev Sachsen-Anhalt . Finally, the regional trains were tied every two hours, every hour during rush hour, to Halle and Bernburg.

With the timetable change in December 2018, Abellio Rail Mitteldeutschland took over passenger transport in the Saxony-Anhalt diesel network, which connects the regional trains from Bernburg to Magdeburg. The Sachsen-Anhalt local transport service also canceled the Trebitz and Bebitz stations because they were only used by around 10 passengers per day. This cuts the travel time by four minutes. Trebitz was only a necessity stop.

The Bebitz flange works is still used for freight transport.

The reception buildings in Baalberge and Bebitz were auctioned in December 2018.
