history

Church in Belleben.

The area around Belleben was probably inhabited as early as the Neolithic period due to the fertile soil. The existence of Belleben as "Beineleibe" is proven by written records of the Fulda monastery from the year 744. The first documentary mention as "Benaleba" comes from May 21, 876 from a protocol of King Ludwig the German with the Fulda Abbot Sigihard . In the following years Belleben belonged to the Archbishopric of Magdeburg under the administration of the Archbishops of Magdeburg. The jurisdiction over Belleben changed over the centuries between different noble lords. From the 12th to the 17th century these were the lords of Belleben , von Trotha , von Krosigk and von Lochau .

When the Archbishopric of Magdeburg fell to Brandenburg-Prussia in 1680, the Electors of Brandenburg (from 1701 kings in / of Prussia) became the new sovereigns of the area now known as the “ Duchy of Magdeburg ”. Belleben was in the north of the now Prussian Saalkreis . After the Lords of Lochau died out in 1684, jurisdiction over Belleben lay with the Princes of Anhalt-Bernburg . After Prince Lebrecht von Anhalt-Bernburg (* 1669; † 1727) acquired the Anhalt office of Hoym and the lordships of Schaumburg and Holzappel (both near Limburg an der Lahn ) in addition to Belleben and the neighboring Haus Zeitz , this property was transferred to the Anhalt branch. Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym united. Belleben and Haus Zeitz, which was under electoral suzerainty, formed the Fürstlich-Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg Office Zeitz.

With the Peace of Tilsit , Belleben, which was under Prussian sovereignty, was incorporated into the Kingdom of Westphalia in 1807 and assigned to the Halle district in the Saale department. The place belonged to the canton Alsleben . After Napoleon's defeat and the end of the Kingdom of Westphalia, Napoleon's allied opponents liberated the Saalkreis in early October 1813. During the political reorganization after the Congress of Vienna in 1815, Belleben was attached to the Merseburg administrative district of the Prussian province of Saxony in 1816 and assigned to the Mansfeld Lake District . Belleben's industrialization began in the mid-19th century (construction of the sugar factory in 1851/66, connection to the railroad in 1871).

With the first district reform in the GDR, Belleben was incorporated into the Bernburg district in 1950 . As a result of the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, the place became part of the Bernburg district in the Halle district , which became the Bernburg district in 1990 and was added to the Salzlandkreis in 2007. Piesdorf was incorporated on July 14, 1961, Haus Zeitz earlier with the dissolution of the estate districts.

On January 1, 2005, Belleben was incorporated into the town of Könnern.
